geeteam posted a topic in Software NewsOn Saturday, Microsoft halted downloads of Windows RT 8.1 from the Windows Store, due to an issue that the company said was "affecting a limited number of users updating their Windows RT devices to Windows RT 8.1." While those particular downloads have yet to resume, Microsoft is now offering a recovery image for people who have been dealing with the problems caused by the update. The download can be found on the Microsoft Downloads website. The file size is pretty large at 3.7 GB and it also contains a PDF file that offers instructions on how to install the file on a Surface RT tablet. Owners of the tablet will have to have a USB Flash drive and a PC that's running Windows 7 or later to create the Surface RT recovery drive. After the drive is made, users can then insert the Flash drive in the Surface RT's USB port and follow the instructions on the PDF form. The download is labeled for the Surface RT tablet, so it's unknown if this file can be used for any of the other Windows RT tablets that are out there like the Dell XPS 10, the Lenovo Yoga 11 and others. source
Nokia has opted for a 10.1-inch display on its Lumia 2520 with a body that’s styled just like a Lumia Windows Phone. It looks beautiful in red, white, cyan, and black. The easiest way to describe this device is just to imagine a rounded Lumia like the 720 and then increase it in size to 10 inches. It really takes Nokia’s design language and places it almost perfectly into a tablet form factor. The 1920 x 1080 display is perhaps one of the best I’ve seen on a tablet. Viewing angles are great and the brightness is equally impressive. Color reproduction is incredibly accurate, and it’s clear Nokia has really aimed high with the display on its first tablet. It's packing LTE, and a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 CPU inside, with a bright 650nit screen made out of Gorilla Glass 2. Nokia showed off a video demonstrating its outdoor readability in sunny Abu Dhabi, bright enough to check out Flipboard on Windows RT. It also packs the Storyteller app seen on the 1520, along with a 6.7MP rear camera featuring Zeiss optics and a 2MP front facing camera. the Lumia 2520's unsubsidized price is $499 in either a red/white glossy finish, or cyan and black matte paintjob when it ships in Q4. Also included are quick charging capabilities that let its 800mAh battery go from drained to 50 percent charge in just 40 minutes. The Nokia Power Keyboard accessory shown above costs an extra $149, and promises an extra five hours of battery life plus two extra USB ports. Check after the break for a full list of specs and a video demo, we'll have hands-on impressions of the new slate from Nokia World in just a moment. source 1 source 2
geeteam posted a topic in Software NewsYou may have just bought that new Surface 2 or Surface Pro 2 tablet earlier this week, but the clock is already ticking to the day that Microsoft's official support for their newest hardware devices will end. According to Microsoft's Product Lifecycle page, mainstream support for both the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 will end on April 10th, 2018. That's nearly four and a half years from now, which is pretty much an eternity when it comes to new hardware. Microsoft had previously indicated it will end mainstream support for its Surface RT (now known just as Surface) tablet on April 11th, 2017. The original Surface Pro will find its support clock reaching its final second on July 10th, 2017. Microsoft is still not offering any information on when it will end mainstream support for Windows RT itself, which is installed in a number of tablets from OEMs that were released in 2012. The Windows RT 8.1 version will also be installed on the upcoming Nokia Lumia 2520. Microsoft will end support for Windows 8 on October 18th, 2015, while mainstream support for Windows 8.1 will stop on January 9th, 2018, with extended support continuing until January 10th, 2023. source: neowin
