The Japanese electronics firm could leave the cut-throat smartphone and TV market as it eyes a forecast profit spike in other areas of its business.

Pushed aside by Apple and Samsung, the Japanese electronics company is not going to aim at sales growth on the smartphone and TV markets. Kazuo Hirai, CEO of Sony Corporation, said: “The strategy starting from the next business year will be about generating profit and investing for growth”. This decision came as the decline, which Sony experienced over the past three years, has not been recovered so far.

Companies like Apple and Samsung have dominated markets where Sony once had a strong presence in. Its decline in market share over the past three to five years has never recovered, despite a slew of new devices making its way to the Western market.

The company also suffered a major public relations nightmare when its Sony Pictures movie-making division was hit by a massive cyberattack that crippled its networks. The hack, which was blamed on North Korea, cost the division at least $15 million so far.

I thought they offered great stuff in the TV range - albeit on the costly side. The Korean Manufacturers (LG and Samsung) seem to have pushed Sony into a great deal of pressure.

On the other hand have not personally been that impressed on their smartphone offering.

Sony use to be bought a lot in TVs and different stuff back years ago . The Japanese were like the ones who made the best products . But in countries were no patient laws exist they just copy what ever they do and pour it out in the import market cheap. the reason Japanese stuff is so high they have to import everything to there country they make stuff with . This has been along time coming . But its not just Sony its everything that suffers from imports from places that have no patient laws , no labor laws they can just do as they please . Just like Acer that's from China and now owns Gateway. And just because something is based in some countries does not mean its made there anymore most all have factories some were else . There's no demand for high priced Japanese stuff unless they can invent something no one else does but it will just get copied sooner or latter by China .
