Multiboot installer..or how whatever you want to call it.

I'm asking here as I haven't the time tonight to do a bit of research on what tool(s) I should be using.

  • Linux Lite
  • Windows XP Pro Performance Edition SP3 November 2010
  • 7 32/64 (if possible)
  • 8 32/64 (if possible)

I can see Xboot, PXE boot, PenDriveLinux.com and so on.

I am just unsure on the way to go about it.

Yeah, I've heard of most of these, just never needed them until now. Not heard of the Pay-ware "BootIt Bare Metal before".

Thanks for the replies. I'll play around soon.

Edit: I should also mention I'd rather it be on a USB stick not a HDD, otherwise I would have just used several partitions.

Wow completely unproductive and a waste try contributing to the thread and explain why its easy and the method used.

Anyway back on topic those options above sound good and Im going to try one if I decide to do a multiboot os on a usb drive I dont see the point (To each is own). You can also try RMPrepUSB:

http://www.rmprepusb.com/home/what-you-can-do-with-rmprepusb

There is XBoot:

https://sites.google.com/site/shamurxboot/

There are probably others those are from a google search I did hope one of the applications posted works for you..

or wood try

Build A Multiboot USB Drive For Free with Yumi

http://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-mul...

YUMI (Your Universal Multiboot Installer), is the successor to MultibootISOs. It can be used to create a Multiboot USB Flash Drive containing multiple operating systems, antivirus utilities, disc cloning, diagnostic tools, and more. Contrary to MultiBootISO's which used grub to boot ISO files directly from USB, YUMI uses syslinux to boot extracted distributions stored on the USB device, and reverts to using grub to Boot Multiple ISO files from USB, if necessary.

Aside from a few distributions, all files are stored within the multiboot folder, making for a nicely organized Multiboot Drive that can still be used for other storage purposes.

Creating a YUMI Multiboot MultiSystem USB Flash Drive
YUMI works much like our Universal USB Installer, except it can be used to install more than one distribution to run from your USB. Distributions can also be uninstalled using the same tool!

Im with you, i use Easy2Boot: http://www.easy2boot.com/

Nothing is as easy and i use it to install OS's, run Hirens (using the extracted ISO method) etc, makes it easy to maintain your multi boot USB key...often as easy as drop the ISO (as mentioned Hirens works best extracted in root of key - read the docs on this if you use it) in its correct folder under the Easy2Boot structure on the USB key and maybe move a pre-prepared menu file to its correct folder under the folder structure...the boot menu is then dynamically created at runtime...easy peasy, and free

  • 1 month later...

A little update.

I tired YUMI but unless I did something wrong it stopped working by the time I added 5 OS' on a USB. It was just booting straight to 8 even though more was on it. Very simple to use however. Perhaps I was just unlucky.

I am using Easy2Boot which seems to be working great so far... provided you read/watch absolutely everything. It gets "easy" once you understand. You drop .iso' straight into the correct folders, ('Make All Files on Drive Contiguous' via RMPrepUSB), done.
