Update:--

Just helped someone to activate his copy of IDM successfully, over TeamViewer and have the following observations to make:--

  • IDM makes a server check even after the IDMGrHlp.exe file is deleted from the installation directory.
  • If the IDMGrHlp.exe file is deleted or renamed, after a successful activation - IDM makes it known to the User that a file is missing.

If cared to read my very first post about this topic, you will find that it was discussed there. Old news.

Wow. You really can't stop attaching this IDMGrHlp.exe alternative, huh? Out of the several posted alternative solutions posted in this thread, you are picking on that one in particular, trying to disprove/poke holes on it in every possible way without success.

This is very entertaining. The only reason I check this thread every morning is because I want to start my day with a huge laugh.

Definitely yes B)

At least now I know why idm is still checking license at registeridm.com eventhough I put that address on windows hosts.

i honestly don't know what to do with my host file. i used josh program to take ownership of host file and after this make it read only. i tried it several times and several days.....but failed.

ultimately i am going to show the full contents of my host file and want modifications if possible. and if possible please send me a modified host file on my mail id. my mail id is [email protected].

my host file full contents are as follows:

# Copyright © 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.

#

# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.

#

# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each

# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should

# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.

# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one

# space.

#

# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual

# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.

#

# For example:

#

# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server

# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.

not renaming/deleting just change IDMGrHlp.exe (eg ping.exe > IDMGrHlp.exe) then put it back to IDM installation folder...actually IDMGrHlp.exe

contents home address IDM loopback to home.

 With my hosts, IDM working here without doing anything to the IDMGrHlp.exe file - no deleting, renaming, replacing or even changing the contents is really required.

If your IDMGrHlp.exe is able to call home - then, I am afraid your hosts entries are incorrect. :dunno:
