sujith
Windows XP is officially an unsupported operating system and no longer receives updates and security patches, but only a few users seem ready to make the move to a different platform.A new set of statistics provided by Net Applications for the month of April reveals that Windows XP is still powering 25.41 percent of the desktop computers worldwide, while Windows 7 continues to lead the charts with 50.93 percent.Windows XP has lost only a few users last month, with figures dropping from 27.69 percent in March to 25.41 percent in April, even though the operating system has reached end of support and Microsoft rolled out plenty of upgrade notifications and warnings that users might be exposed to security risks if they do not upgrade.Windows 8, on the other hand, still has a market share of 6.12 percent, while Windows 8.1 closed the month at 5.66 percent, which means that Microsoft's modern operating system now powers 11.78 percent of the PCs across the world.Microsoft obviously warns that staying on Windows XP is a very risky decision and warns that cybercriminals would attempt to exploit every single flaw they found in the operating system.“If you continue to use Windows XP now that support has ended, your computer will still work but it might become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. Internet Explorer 8 is also no longer supported, so if your Windows XP PC is connected to the Internet and you use Internet Explorer 8 to surf the web, you might be exposing your PC to additional threats,” Microsoft said in a statement a few months ago.“Also, as more software and hardware manufacturers continue to optimize for more recent versions of Windows, you can expect to encounter more apps and devices that do not work with Windows XP.”A flaw in Windows XP has already been found, with an Internet Explorer vulnerability currently affecting all versions of Windows and exposing users to attacks launched via a compromised website. Malware hosted on this webpage can be used for remote code execution, Microsoft warned while also providing a number of workarounds to help consumers stay on the safe side.Internet Explorer 10 and 11 are the only versions not affected by the flaw, Microsoft said, so everyone is urged to upgrade as soon as possible. Switching to a different browser is also an option for those still running Windows XP.Source

mara-
I hope the web goes IPv6 only soon. That would shut XP off from the net for good. Not sure why it would shut XP, since it can use IPv6.Cheers ;)

MidnightDistortions
Some internet users just want to see the world burn. :lol:Oh but the joke is on them. Not to be a dick but I hope they all get hacked. Getting hacked and told off by the banks and companies about their dinosaur PC with XP will be the only thing to wake the ignorant up. Not sure about what would change those who are in the know and for some reason still want to use XP and load it up with security products (that won't support XP forever). I hope the web goes IPv6 only soon. That would shut XP off from the net for good.Well eventually people will learn from their mistakes. I was kinda hoping that something like some greedy corporation still on XP would fail and gives better ones a chance to do better. Either way eventually people will have no choice but to upgrade from XP. They are prone to hard drive, PSU failures and the motherboards are probably IDE only so give it time they'll probably run into worse issues like data corruption or a fire because brand PSU's will not handle old age well. Seen a few cheap PSU's blow up a few times, that's a fire hazard! Plenty of ways of watching XP users find the hard way of keeping an out of date PC/software. CPowell46
These people are not far short of pathological. How does it harm them if someone wants to use Windows 3.1, or even MS-DOS? Reminds me of something that was once said of the Puritans: They were tormented by the thought that someone somewhere was enjoying himself (i.e., doing what he wanted to do). CPowell46
Twenty-four days after Doomsday, the Attack of the Hackers has not happened. It won't happen. The Doom-mongering was motivated by Microsoft's desire to sell a new OS. It was as dishonest as the Y2K Doom-mongering. Nobody needs Microsoft's "security updates". I haven't installed a single one since SP3, and I've yet to have my first malware problem.

CPowell46
Codyqx4, I appreciate your acknowledging that an XP user might know what he's doing. Many XP-haters take for granted that anyone still using XP is barely smart enough to know how to turn his computer on. And many XP-haters are XP-user-haters as well, although it beats me why.
