Apple to unveil both a 4.7 inch and 5.7 inch version of the Apple iPhone at WWDC

According to Sun Chyang Xu, an analyst from China who made a prescient call on the Motorola Moto X, Apple is going to have a pair of launches for the Apple iPhone in 2014. According to the analyst, Apple will start trial production of the Apple iPhone 6 with production of 2 million to 3 million units starting in May. This phonewill feature a 4.7 inch screen with the same 640 x 1136 resolution used on its 4 inch models.

The second version of the Apple iPhone to be released this year will have a larger 5.7 inch screen, with higher resolution than the iPhone 6. An earlier report from DisplaySearch Taiwan stated that the 4.7 inch iPhone will offer resolution of 720 x 1280, while the 5.7 inch version will have resolution of 1080 x 1920.

Both handsets are expected to be introduced at WWDC in June, although the iPhone 6 will be available shortly after the developers' conference, and the larger screened model will be released later in the year. Apple launched two different iPhone variants last year, the Apple iPhone 5s and the Apple iPhone 5c, to keep up with the various Android models that are produced from a number of different manufacturers. The next step would seem to be Apple holding two different launches a year.

The 4.7 inch iPhone 6 is expected to keep an 8MP camera on back so that the phone can remain thin. Confirming an earlier report, the body of the next-gen iPhone is expected to be a thin 6mm. Returning to the camera, the rear-facing snapper will offer OIS and an aperture of f/1.8, which should allow for some great photographs taken under low-light conditions. To put that in perspective, the aperture on the rear-facing snapper on the Apple iPhone 5s is f/2.2.

The above report is very similar to another one we passed along at the beginning of this year. That report, out of Japan, had Apple producing both 4.7 inch and 5.7 inch models of the iPhone, just like the information unearthed by Sun Chyang Xu. The difference is that this report had Apple launching the 5.7 inch version in May as part of a brand new phablet line, while the smaller 4.7 inch version would be launched in September.

While the two stories are not perfectly a match, the fact that they both talk of 4.7 inch and 5.7 inch variants of the iPhone could be a positive sign that we will see two iPhone versions launched this year, featuring screens with those dimensions.
