The old trick with the regedit still working fine. No need to patch anything.

go to regedit and change sharewaretype to a number from 0-5 (3)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ashampoo\Ashampoo Burning Studio 12\ash_inet

Tested.

That key is not even in my registry. No I am not running the portable version.

32bit
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ashampoo\Ashampoo Burning Studio 14\ash_inet]
"SharewareType"=dword:00000003

64bit
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Ashampoo\Ashampoo Burning Studio 14\ash_inet]
"SharewareType"=dword:00000003

both, TE serial and SharewareType method, looks like not fully work for me, the problem is with Backup Extractor

Is it meant to be a standalone tool or is it part of the main program?

When i run backupextractor14.exe directly i get appcrash regarding brtcdau.dll, when i rename backupextractor14.exe and brtcdau.dll to *.bak and start Burning Studio again a brtcdau.dll missing error but only with backupextractor14.exe renamed to *.bak Burning Studio works, when i double-click a *.ashbak file with Burning Studio closed, Burning Studio again crashes regarding brtcdau.dll but directly within Burning Studio the Backup and Restore functions (restoring *.ashbak) are fully working, even without backupextractor14.exe. Maybe it just isn't possible to trigger any external events, weird.

I will test on XP again to see if it's the same there.
