Skype is a little piece of software that lets you make free calls to anyone else on Skype, anywhere in the world. And even though the calls are free, they are really excellent quality. If you and your friends, family or business contacts are using webcams, you can also make free video calls. You can even call landlines and mobile phones at really cheap per minute rates (and there's no setup or subscription fee).

Thanks to thylacine for the update.

Caution: the executable may be infected: Win32 Gen or something like this. Do not install!

It is painful for Microsoft compiling Skype installers on infected systems. Truly painful.

However interesting:

Avast 7 says OK, no problems found when manually checking executable installer. If the installer is running actually to install the application, Avast moves the program to his Virus Container immediately

Thanks!

For me when downloaded:

EXE -> I got old version 6.1.

MSI -> Ok! but version 6.2.32.106 and not offering options (like for EXE) to check before installation.

Id like to know what you meant about that it might be infected... I'm also sure others would to like to know your insight on this.... or are you pulling our chains?

I have sent the files (the SkypeSetup.exe and SkypeSetupFull.exe) to Avast, they updated the database, and now - finally the files are (from Avast) officially both clean.

It is simple: if my AV tells me that a file is infected and moves it to this Virus Container, i usually believe this. I scanned the files with Avast itself to no avail, saying no viruses there.

Then i run the installers: they were both moved to Virus Container immediately, so i could not run them ever again.

Before deleting them i sent them to Avast, they said with the next update this will be resolved. So now it IS resolved, Avast lets me execute those files.

What about Skype for Windows 8 ?

Any new updates for that or does it auto update ?

Well you have 2 option can use Skype Metro or installer from here.... Personally i will recommend you do not use Skype metro cause its weird and confusing for me.

Yes I know I have Skype for Windows 8.. does the Skype for Windows 8 auto update if you already have it or should I download a new version for it somewhere?

If you did not install Skype Metro and using installer version use the download link from here installation will only update the last version automatically i never use Windows update for skype cause i am always ahead of it. Also i only guess that update for Skype Metro for Windows 8!

Skype updated to v6.2.59.106

Do you get v6.2.59.106 using same installation file from download link! EXE OR MSI?
