Administrator Lite Posted January 12, 2010 Administrator Share Posted January 12, 2010 DKT is proposing a page containing a list of all the applications listed by category. Guess you missed this right? ;)
HX1
No I went from the bottom up on recent Topics.. so I posted here ..Played on the front page for a minute then went to the next topic.. which was the one about it being updated.. Administrator DKT27 Posted January 12, 2010 Administrator Share Posted January 12, 2010 Lite is right. I'm sure this is important and useful enough.
chlorophyll
quickdownloads search in da front page wont mean exactly that they r related to front page updates.wil be better if its renamed as FRONT PAGE DOWNLOADS SEARCH:rolleyes:
Administrator Lite Posted February 4, 2010 Administrator Share Posted February 4, 2010 Its likely we will see a "All Downloads" page soon.We will think about changing the search name to something else in the future.

Casper
What I'd like to see is the use of 7z archives. Often times I download from work, and unfortunately they have Mcafee installed here and I can't disable it or anything, so as soon as the download finishes, it's deleted (since Mcafee thinks it's a virus). It doesn't seem as though they scan 7z archives.
Sl@pSh0ck™
antiviruses tend to be over sensitive...it usually detect keygens/patches and what not as viruses, it's not just mcaffee thats doing this. If your downloading from your office and your not an admin theres no way you can set up mcaffee to ignore these things, even if we put it on a 7zip, zip, rar what not, it would still detect it. But usually they are false positives, all fixes posted here in nsane (frontpage) have been tested, so you guys are assured they are virus free. Casper
Yeah, I'm am an admin, but, Mcafee is locked (password protected), so the only function I can do with Mcafee is update it/perform a scan.I have in fact brought some files from home and packed them with 7z, and Mcafee did not delete the archive. I've had the same files pack in zip/rar and it deleted them. I just don't think they are scanning 7z with Mcafee 'yet'. This may/may not be the case with other anti-virus programs. But I am aware that the files are not in fact viruses, I've always come across anti-virus giving false alarms for such files.I just need to get the files home and maybe using another archive format may curb some anti-virus apps (for now). Ok, it may also 'challenge' your uninformed user (but I think 7z is very much in the know).
Sl@pSh0ck™
very well ... lets just wait what the other staff/mods would have to say on this ok ;)
shought
.RAR is the standard (which you already noted), even though most tech savvy users will know what to do with .7z files there's still a chance some might not. We've also got not tech savvy users whose heads would explode at the very instant of noticing an unknown file (they would most likely have the ability to hide known filetypes in Explorer turned on) :PAlso I do think most AVs are capable of scanning through .7z encoding...Another option would be to protect the files with a password, but again this would lead to inconvenience for our users (users, as all humans, who generally do not like to read anything at all nor follow instructions(even if these include a password) ).So, my take on it: not gonna happen ;) (Our friendly neighborhood admin (Lite) could of course overrule me, but then again: most likely not gonna happen :D
Administrator Lite Posted March 12, 2010 Administrator Share Posted March 12, 2010 I think the use of .zip or .rar archives is the way it has to be for the moment. The benefits of using these formats far out-weighs the disadvantages. Maybe one day this can change. It might be an idea to disable the scanning of archives in your realtime scanner? Once the files are extracted they will be scanned anyway. Just a thought.
irefay
Wish:I wish I didnt have to deal with the download problems with patches/ cracks. I use Internet Download Manager. Every time I try to download a fix, I get blocked (and have to wait 15min) to try again. I know I can "just push alt" but every other website that I use, doesnt require this extra step, so I often forget.I realize the purpose behind it. We were getting DoS'd. What about using forum log-in information to have the proxy allow forum members to use IDM when downloading fixes?
Administrator Lite Posted March 14, 2010 Administrator Share Posted March 14, 2010 Being cross-domain causes an issue with this as it would require a separate login specifically for the FP.There are some other ideas that could be possible, i can look into these, no promises though. On IDM, click options - click file types - on "don't start downloading automatically from this addresses" click edit list - add this: http://proxy.nsane*
Casper
I might be in the wrong place here - but I think it would be great to see the TMPGEnc application suite at nsanedown.com. What do others have to say about this?

aben4rent
I wish to include vuescan and hiren boot cd in the front page. please let me know your input on this one. Thanks, aben
shought
Hiren's BootCD has been suggested and considered a couple of times, but there's the problem of 'how to include the download link' (because we don't like linking to other hosts)...VueScan will certainly be considered :)

VueScan will certainly be considered :) How about a torrent? I don't know why it's never posted. Hiren's BootCD is quite legal. And if someone tries to include some malware, the torrent will fail the hashcheck. It's so useful ISO, I see torrent the only way to include it on frontpage. shought
For some reason, I don't recall, we didn't like the idea...Because not everyone knows how to use a torrent client, but they probably won't be looking for Hiren's BootCD either, so. I dunno.
Administrator DKT27 Posted June 5, 2010 Administrator Share Posted June 5, 2010 Feel that every new addition to frontpage should contain New addition or something like that added to the end of the News and Updates post or on frontpage.Like if the software is new to frontpage, the staffs can write New Addition To Frontpage in the place where Thanks to xxx for the update is written. Administrator DKT27 Posted June 5, 2010 Administrator Share Posted June 5, 2010 (edited) I don't seem to remember the last time I saw that Lite. Normally another post is made saying that, when asked. Edited June 5, 2010 by DKT27
