Last month, @NTDEV_, creator of the popular tiny10/11 Windows modification, released tiny10 version 23H2, a modern Windows 10 image with unnecessary components removed. Those who left Windows 10 behind and moved to Windows 11 can also taste a lightweight operating system as tiny11 23H2 is now available for download.

Like its Windows 10-based counterpart, tiny11 23H2 is a modified Windows 11 ISO rebuilt using the open-source OSDBuilder tool with a few extra tweaks. The latter ensures the project is compatible with most Windows components, apps, and updates. As a result, you get a modern and reliable operating system that takes significantly less space on disk than the "vanilla" Windows 11.

Microsoft is rolling out a new Windows 11 (Original Release) version for members of the Release Preview channel of the Windows Insider Program. The build number for this version is 22000.2479 (KB5030301). It mostly consists of bug fixes but does have a few small improvements.

Back in 2021, when Windows 11 was new, Microsoft acknowledged that there were problems and promised better performance in 2022. Again in 2022, Microsoft's Panos Panay reiterated the company's new OS was all about delivering the "highest quality". Earlier this year, the tech giant also expressed in detail the performance improvements it delivered over the last year.

Sadly though, evidence suggests Windows 11 remains sluggish as tests indicate Windows 10 is generally snappier and the more responsive OS. However, things could be changing as Microsoft is seemingly getting serious about fixing File Explorer performance and issues.

A software vulnerability could give hackers easy access to your computer. Major browser makers have fixed it, but the problem is more widespread than that.

Google, Mozilla, Microsoft, and Brave have each issued critical security patches, reports Stack Diary. The patches address a vulnerability that an attacker could use to gain access to or run malicious code on your computer, and the companies acknowledge it’s been actively exploited in the wild. NIST classifies the vulnerability as severe. Other companies’ applications are affected — the vulnerability is linked to code used to render WebP images, which are widely used.

But Todd Howard says it's optimized and you should upgrade anyway

For as good a game as Starfield is at its core, the PC gaming community hasn't all been too thrilled with its performance.

A YouTuber has run some tests with a PCIe 5.0 SSD that shows even the absolute fastest storage you can get still isn't enough.

After many took exception to Bethesda's Todd Howard saying we should just upgrade our PCs, what exactly are we supposed to upgrade to?!

It is always a sad day when a respected and, at least somewhat, popular software developer or development company is shutting down the business.

KC Softwares was first mentioned here on this site in January 2008. We tested the company's flagship product SUMO, Software Updates Monitor, against four other programs designed to improve the updating of Windows applications.

Lots of mentions followed, as well as an extensive review of SUMO in 2015. SUMO was not the company's only program; there were others, like DUMO, designed for driver updates, Startup Sentinel, to manage autostart entries, or Video Inspector, a program to display information about the codecs that a video file required for playback.

Google's euphemistically named Privacy Sandbox or Ad Privacy feature is a topic of hot debate. While it is true that it is changing tracking on the Internet fundamentally by getting rid of third-party cookies, it still relies on the profiling of users, is said to give Google even more control over the advertising market, and is the first time that an advertising solution that includes tracking is integrated natively in a web browser.

Google is pushing the new advertising features into Chrome Stable slowly but steadily. Since the company is also in control of Chromium, the open source root of Google Chrome, it is also integrating these changes into that browser. This integration puts other companies and individuals who use Chromium as the source for their browsers in a precarious situation.

Microsoft is gearing up to ship the next major feature update for Windows 11, known as "version 23H2" and likely dubbed the "2023 Update" when officially released. The company has been testing this next release in preview over the last handful of months, and now the update is almost ready to ship, allowing us to begin reviewing all the new features ahead of release in a few weeks.

Windows 11 version 23H2 is shaping up to be quite a significant release, with lots of quality of life improvements as well as big new features to take advantage of. We've got a brand-new File Explorer design, a new Windows AI assistant along with general AI enhancements in a number of areas, lots of improvements to the Taskbar, and notable in-box app updates as well.

Sometimes, you just need to take a deep breath and have some fun. That's what "@NTDEV", the developer behind the popular Tiny10 and Tiny 11 OS modes, decided to do earlier this week.

On his YouTube channel, NTDEV decided to see if he could run multiple versions of Windows inside each other, like a virtual version of a Russian nesting doll.

This past week was about more than Starfield, though that's clearly the biggest thing in tech right now.

If you're anything like our team of writers, you've spent the entire past week reading about Starfield or enjoying early access to the game. You've probably forgotten to do some things, like water your plants or go to your day job. My guess is you also missed some news stories while exploring the cosmos. Luckily, I am here to help you catch up on the biggest stories from the past week.

Back in July, Microsoft for the first time publicly announced the upcoming Windows 11 version 23H2 feature update release, also hinting at its system requirements. This came hot on the heels of another major Windows 11 announcement, one where the tech giant informed about the end-of-service date for the original Windows 11, version 21H2, which is due later this year in October 2023.

Earlier today, the company published a reminder about it while also explaining how it will proceed with the major update. Microsoft says that the October 2023 Patch Tuesday will be the final security update for 21H2. It has also added that the upcoming September non-security release will be its final non-security optional update.

By Susan Bradley (AKA The Microsoft patch lady)

August can be a weird month where patching is concerned.

I’m lowering the MS-DEFCON level, but with caution. I usually hope to give time near the end of the month for patches to be applied, by lowering the level to 4 and sometimes 5. This time, I’m wishy-washy. Caution is the order of the day, so I’m lowering the level to just 3.
