I voted XP, but i made a dualboot with linux UBUNTU

I am testing it now for over 1 month and it's amazing what you can do with ubuntu, you just have to see the 3de effects you can enable .. look up some movies on youtube and you can see B)

There is a live CD of ubuntu where you can test it and you don't have to install it, it just runs from the cd .. (it is slower ofcourse than when you install it on you HD, but it's only for testing)

I think that in a few years i don't need windows anymore ;)

Yeah i tried the ubuntu-cd once, took forever to startup but thats because it's a cd-boot.

However, i am not in to eyecandy or 3d-effects though i have to admit it's quite impressive.

Unfortunately there are simply too many programs that won't run on linux though so i cant do without windows, and no, wine is not an option.

But if i could, i would probably switch to ubuntu for the sake of open source.

true but for every program there is a linux alternative that most of the time works even better..

I don't know how lang ago you tested ubuntu but there is alot changed, wine is also improved and gets updates every month or more..

Games are the only problem..

Biggest prob is photoshop (and acrobat-family), the gimp is not a real alternative.

And games, omg, games....

So far, no vista voters yet.

I'd be surprised to see much/any vista voters... I guess vista still has a long way too go. But i expect eventually it'll get better, or we'll get used to it's slowness.

We'll see.. People seem to have forgotten about Windows ME :D Vista seems to be a good runner-up.

XP Pro all the way

I was running Vista for a while but switched back to XP, faster and less annoying!

Type gimp vs photoshop in google and you will find out that gimp is a realy good alternative

Believe me, I earn a living from this app(PS). Gimp is cool, but if you want PRO, then you have to switch to Adobe.

Don't be sad. I voted!

No1 likes Linux?!?

Guess they do but the title does say 'XP or VISTA'. So i wouldn't be surpised if Linux users would skip this. I never used it but my friend does recommend it. He says it's faster, looks better and has less virusses(i'm sure of that one). But i have computer's which more people use so it'll take soem time for them to get used and they don't like it if i change the OS.

I thought it was possible to run Phostoshop on Linux with Wine..? ;)

But yeah, for me it's XP too, been to Vista, even after "vLiting" (vLite) & tweaking services to minimum etc. it was still much more of a resource hog than XP is..

& nVidia's drivers altho already close to XP's drivers' performance are still quite a lot worse than XP's..

And umm yeah.. I'd only try it again after getting a new rig.. It sure looks sexy but has lots of performance quirks.. Seems it needs a shot of Viagra.. :P

  • 1 month later...

I'm using here at home these operating systems;

- Windows XP Home Edition SP2 -->DuAL BoOT<-- Arch Linux

- Windows XP Home Edition SP2

- Windows XP Professional - laptop -

- Arch Linux - laptop -

- Mac OS X 10.5.2 and XP - Vmware Fusion -

I tested Windows Vista when it was beta-2- (oktober 2005), it looked good for a beta, but the system requirements were quite high.

Try out 2 was in januari, when Vista was RTM, it looked better, but not really that stable as XP

Try out 3 was a month or 2 ago, same conclusion as in januari, it looks nice, but XP is still more stable and faster.

Try Out 1 and 2 where on a Celeron 2.4Ghz, with 1.5gigs of RAM

Try out 3 was on a Core 2 Duo 2Ghz, with 2gigs of RAM

*sorry for my bad English

It's simply for me: XP

-XP can do all you want with suitable program, Vista not.

-XP is more stable now.

-Software available for XP.

-Easy controls, autostarts, disabling services, editing registry......You get more control.
