I tried it for the first time last night (the previous version) and it wreaked complete havoc on my WIn7 x64 system! Nearly has to do a complete re-install of Windows!

First off... every time I would defrag/smart placement/consolidate free space or whatever option I tried, it would always give me different results after analyzing. For example defragging then analyzing would show not defragged and so on. Same thing would happen after a reboot... it would show as smart placement was not applied etc,...

Tried to uninstall and it gave some error about not being able to and it left a countless number of registry entries and junk all over the place. Upon rebooting it would BSOD in a constant loop with errors about pdfsfilter.sys. Went into safe mode and manually deleted all files, folders and registry entries pertaining to raxco and perfect disk. Rebooted and then windows would hang and not boot to the desktop for around 10 minutes. When it showed up I would get multiple warnings something to the effect of "cannot start windows services". Network adapter would not connect, event viewer could not be started, and a bunch of others.

I luckily found the solution. I'm sure it works great for others... but I'll NEVER use this software again.

BTW, anyone knows what is the Update Patch for, as i don't find any use for it?

What's new in PerfectDisk 12 (Build 285)

    1. S.M.A.R.T. tab incorrectly displayed some drives (SSDs) which were not supported as well as incorrectly reporting temperature for several drives which should have displayed correctly. These issues were fixed.
    2. Default defragmentation methods were changed for drives in a virtual environment. PerfectDisk disabled all defragmentation methods if it could not determine the drive type in a virtual environment. This has been changed.
    3. The tray icon incorrectly allowed control of hidden drives. This has been fixed.
    4. The S.M.A.R.T. graphs did not follow the user settings for time (24 hour vs 12 hour with am, pm).
    5. The Global Setting dialog threw an error on opening when the Nvidia video driver was installed. This is due to a bug with the nvidia dll (nvsvc64.dll, v7.15.11.7923). PerfectDisk has worked around this issue.
    6. Corrected an installation bug. When installing PerfectDisk Server edition, on a computer running the PerfectDisk Enterprise Console, it indicated the installation needed to be to the same folder. This is a hold over from PerfectDisk v11 and is no longer required.
    7. After a selected file defragmentation pass from the Most Fragmented files list the list was not refreshed to show the file had been defragged. This has been fixed.
    8. File exclusion was not working properly when performing a Defrag Only pass. This has been fixed.

    What's new in PerfectDisk 12 (Build 275)

      1. There were several issues where the S.M.A.R.T. tab indicated outrageously high temperatures. This was due to PerfectDisk not recognizing the drive model and trying to apply an incorrect set of rules to interpret the S.M.A.R.T. data. In this build PerfectDisk will only provide S.M.A.R.T. data for drives in recognizes. More drives will be added in later service packs.
      2. Real time defragmentation aggressively allocated space to prevent additional fragmentation. This resulted in consuming large amounts of space unnecessarily. The main symptom was rapidly growing log files. This has been corrected.
      3. On some Windows XP systems the drives were grayed out annd PerfectDisk could not be used. This was due an issue with WMI which has been corrected.
      4. On Windows 7, the hidden 100mb partition created to support bitlocker has been added to the excluded drives list automatically. There is no benefit in defragmenting this partition.
      5. Multiple text changes were made to maintain the PerfectDisk consistent with the PerfectDisk Console.
      6. When enabling or disabling the SMART feature, the PerfectDisk GUI did not reflect the changes until you closed and reopened the GUI. This has been fixed.
      7. There was a bug in displaying the MFT statistics. Text was inserted where numerical values should have been. This has been corrected.
      8. When SMART polling occurred, the SMART Tab refocused to the first disk in the list. This has been fixed to leave focus on whatever disk was selected.
      9. When entering a license key the Help menu still allowed you to reenter it. This has been fixed.
      10. When right clicking on a file in the Most Fragmented Files list, and choosing to open the folder you would get an error if the file path contained a space. This has been fixed.
      11. Ability to set partitions as Thin Provisioned has been removed from the PerfectDisk consumer product line. This feature is for corporate thin provisioned SAN environments.
      12. There was a bug in the VMware Host product which caused the GUI to crash when performing an offline defrag on a virtual volume. The crash was in the PerfectDisk GUI and did not affect the virtual volume. This has been fixed.
      13. data retention rules were added to prevent the log file growing too large. Before Service Pack 1, all alerts were saved. Now Alerts are saved for two weeks and then purged.
      14. During a defrag pass, the hibernate file is temporarily removed to free up space to improve defrag performance. If the computer was shutdown during a defrag pass or when a defrag pass was PAUSED, the hibernate file was not restored. This has been fixed.
      15. Additional information was added to the log when performing a Zero Fill pass (Server product only).
      16. Some of the Alerts had the incorrect text. The Alert indicated you had exceeded a threshold when it should have indicated you dropped below the threshold value. values were also being incorrectly flagged as alerts when they were not. These have been fixed.
      17. S.M.A.R.T. temperature graph appeared to be out of date. This was due to only graphing 1000 data points, where there could have been up to 44,600. This has been fixed.
      18. After an Analyze pass, PerfectDisk made a recommendation on what type of defragmentation pass was needed and allowed you to start that pass right away. There was a bug which caused PerfectDisk to start the default defrag pass not the currently recommended. This has been fixed

I think the official download link was just updated - prior you had to do an internal check for update, or use the update patch to get the latest version.

      @ hpwamr

I was not asking "What's New in PerfectDisk 12" or the "Change Log" but thank you.
