Indie gamers came out in droves for the latest "pay what you want" indie game sales event. The Humble Indie Bundle 3, which eventually offered gamers a whopping 12 titles, ended its event earlier today and it turned out to be the most successful bundle sale yet in terms of the money raised. According to the HumbleBundle.com web site, the latest bundle generated $2,167,249.15 in revenues with gamers purchasing a total of 372,286 game packs.

By contrast, the first Humble Indie Bundle (in May 2010) brought in $1.25 million, while the second bundle, (in December 2010) generated $1.8 million in revenue. The Humble Frozenbyte Bundle, which had five games from just one game developer, generated just under $1 million in revenue earlier this year. The Humble Indie Bundle 3 started in July 2011 with just five games (Crayon Physics Deluxe, Cogs, VVVVVV, Hammerfight and And Yet it Moves). Later the bundle added two more games (Steel Storm and Atom Zombie Smasher) and all five games from Humble Indie Bundle 2 (Braid, Cortex Command, Machinarium, Osmos and Revenge of the Titans). People who purchased the bundle could also play the full version of the hit sandbox game Minecraft from now until August 14.

While you could technically get all 12 games in the Humble Indie Bundle 3 for as low as 1 cent, the average purchase price for the bundle was $5.82. That's still far less than what all these games normally sell for. The highest purchase for the bundle was made by MtGox.com, a BitCoin exchange web site, for $4,096.
