I'm glad you finally did it. Do not skip the other parts just by commodity, you will probably find most of them intact, and in the process of testing you will learn how to never have the need for a IT specialist for this matter. This is my advice, but still if you have so much money so you don't care, skip it... :sneaky:

that is what is so good about this site...so many people with so much patience to help other people so they too can learn how to fix multitude of problems with computers...

as to the question of turning the hard drive into an external drive...that is very easy to do just buy the external drive, you don't need an expensive fancy one with lots of bells and whistles...just a cheap one will work just as well. Just make sure to read the documentation on how to set the jumpers and your set with a mobile drive... I would suggest you most likely won't need the operating system on your mobile drive as mobile drives are more useful for storage then running the OS. I use my mobile drive to store music, pictures and also to back up my OS in case it gets corrupted.
