The uTorrent team is working on a paid version of the leading BitTorrent client that will enable users to convert videos and transfer files to external devices. Branded uTorrent Plus, the extended uTorrent client will be be released to the public this coming fall. uTorrent’s parent company BitTorrent Inc. hopes the Plus version will bring in some extra revenue, but considering the target audience it is expected to ‘suffer’ from piracy as well.

Source WTF?

Bad move if you ask me. Anyway, I don't see any useful things in those "Plus" features.

Cheers ;)

Completely pointless idea if you ask me,it seems every new version of utorrent gets more and more bloated with crap so i cant say it wasn't expected.

DreamHaters

This will fail, just isn't good enough to entice people to pay for it.

I quote a well known 0day group:

All good progs start as freeware, then things get worse ..

That nails it.

Spybot is a good example. Always has been freeware and now charging for I believe corporate version. Or commercial version?!

Well first off.. Most people who use devices .. download files already made for them.. second most devices out there requires certain guidelines for the transcoding to a specific type of file to be played and viewed correctly...( which related to the first ) ..Third that there a ton of people who already use freeware to do the job and do it correctly..( have become comfortable with it ) or already have programs to do this job.. Like a lot of things are geared these days I only see this as being a success as far as preying on stupid people or people who are frivolous with their expenditures.. Possibly lazy or 'not well informed' individuals...

The program itself probably sounds like a great idea but possibly back when this sort of thing first hit the market.. with iPods and such... Maybe a way for uT to actually get paid for a few things but I don't really see it being a great attention getter or a program that is universally ground breaking or something people cannot live without..

If this turns into a hosting or online type service your talking about a major attack from companies who will claim copyright infringement as they have already done.. even for those of us who have purchased and own our own files.. Not to mention that this sort of thing on a cloud level will take forever.. if gone that route... but thats all conjecture.. and possibilities for expansion as far as convenience and access is concerned..

Good idea with the VPN. I might even pay if it's fast and reliable and the local situation get worse.

No way !!!! ill never pay unless they give us a free VPN/Proxy behind the payed version.

Now that's an idea that would sell, if as the previous poster pointed out, it was fast and reliable.
