File Hosting, the New P-to-P?

As ISPs constrict file-sharing services such as BitTorrent, new data shows that users are moving to file-hosting Web sites to avoid slow downloads.ADVERTISEMENT

RapidShare and MegaUpload are among the most used file-hosting services. Together, the two sites account for 9 percent of all Internet traffic in the Middle East and 4 percent in Germany, according to iPoque, a company based in Leipzig, Germany, that specializes in traffic-management appliances for ISPs.

The percentages are significant since over the last year usage of file-sharing sites, which number in the dozens, has surged, said Klaus Mochalski, iPoque's CEO. The sites offer potentially faster download speeds for sharing files than peer-to-peer networks.

"These Web pages are tremendously popular," Mochalski said.

The services let users upload a file and then share a link, called a direct download link, in e-mails and Web forums for others to download the content. Most sites offer a free service with limits and subscriptions that allow more frequent downloads

You cannot stop advertising the site, even after all these warnings. You do it on Lite's topic, total disrespect. I'm not deleting your post, because I want all to see what it is what it is not allowed, but I'm raising again your warning level.

File Hosting services are similar to newsgroups in some aspects, but it lakes convenient search and central access point to all files hosted in those sites.

I found that there's a site provides a workaround for those two problems, you pay for the site and the site has paid accounts for about 10 famous web hosting sites, and they have an indexing site that allows you to search for files however it's bit expensive when comparing to directly paying for one site, they take 0.5$ for 1GB so for 30GB/month you'll pay 15$ which can be downloaded for much less if you've an account at rs for example.

However I like the sites idea so much and I was thinking of creating the same service before I found that it is already there.

So anyone have an account in similar sites?
