Google releases 'Me on the Web' tool to manage web identities

Google today announced the release of a brand new tool called "Me on the Web", it is a part of the Google Dashboard (just underneath the account details) which lets users set up custom Google Alerts. It can then keep a check out for your name, phone number or e-mail addresses to be mentioned in news articles and then inform you as soon as they are posted.

According to TNW the tool also offers tips and additional resources to help you monitor and keep control of your identity while online. The "Me on the Web" section contains links from your profile alongside various websites that reference it.

Google say that the site also contains links to resources, which can help you control what third-party information is getting posted about you on the web. These include simple tips such as how to contact a webmaster to remove content or how to publish additional info on making less relevant sites move lower down in search results.

To make use of Me on the Web, users are required to have a Google Account. It is located in the Google Account's Dashboard section.

In other words, Google wants to keep your personal info safe, by spying/keeping that info with them.

Talk about it, about a month ago I changed my name on Hotmail profile, now I open the Google dashboard to find that Google has changed it to the exact new name I used on Hotmail. :blink: Google doesn't even know I have a Hotmail account, nor I ever touch the account options on Google.
