Administrator DKT27 Posted June 2, 2011 Administrator Share Posted June 2, 2011 Sometimes we do things then look back and wonder who we were when we did them. This appears to be the case with a 17-year-old Chinese boy who reportedly decided that he would not give his right arm for an iPad 2, but he would give his right kidney. I know, I know. It doesn't seem entirely sensible. On the other hand, you can live quite happily with just one kidney. It's a lot harder with, say, just one foot. The way the Shanghai Daily tells it, the boy, from Huaishan City, said he couldn't afford an iPad 2 and wanted one rather badly. He said he was contacted by an online broker who told him he could get 22,000 Yuan (just under $3,400) for his kidney.(Credit: CC InUseConsulting/Flickr) I'm fairly sure that the iPad 2 doesn't cost $3,400. So presumably the boy has saved a little for his future. However, the Shanghai Daily reported that when his mother found out that her son had had his right kidney removed at Chenzhou No 198 Hospital, she informed the police. Worse, the hospital reportedly doesn't have the proper facilities to perform such surgery, which lasts about three hours. The police are reportedly investigating, while the teen's health is reportedly deteriorating. He now seems to be expressing regret. One can only wish that he at least makes a full recovery and that, somehow and at some time, he can put into perspective the slightly extreme nature of this transaction. toyo
Punish the ones that accumulated so much wealth, that the poor people contemplate selling their body parts. I can't believe that this boy did not had enough $ for one iPad, and others have 10 cars, 3 houses and 2 islands. This is the root of the problem. HX1
IF they don't carry the effect into their adult life.. nor have to waste time on figuring it all out ..'Behind the rest of the class...' so to speak... Financially speaking however.. I think that these are issues that are facing a lot of people in all countries.. some parts of the world are not even able to have clean water or sufficient medical care..I mean truthfully we can say what we want about the state of things .. but if anyone is going to really have any sort of life.. and enjoy it.. They are going to have to have money.. Right now.. I would sell one of mine if I could enough out f it to get a start going i the right direction.. AND if I knew that it was going to help someone who may die without it.. which are the only situations in which a kidney transplant is done.. Really in a way, I think that he not ONLY did it to get the iPad 2.. but he may have also seen it as doing something good for someone else... I doubt these kidneys are going into research n how to make them artificially... I really don't know.. Bottom line its his life.. If he is that motivated in getting what he wants before life passes him by and that motivated to achieve.. then I think he may go far... There is a positive side to these things... He didn't sell his kidney to save his mother's life or some other noble cause, he did to get a freakin' iPad 2 which is pathetic.
Peace_Angel
Whats next? sell his mother for a pint of beer? I can't believe people are so stupid to sell their organ for an iPad. I remember there was this person who played WOW (or some other online game) for 3 straight days before dying. It seems that nowadays people are ready to do anything.WTF are you going to do with an iPad when you are not enough fit to use it? Such a shame. If it was food, I would understand, since that would allow you to live, but a freaking iPad? He should be sued for 220 000 Yuan for selling his kidney WILLINGLY!Peace. toyo
Some compassion for the poor kid, OK? He's a victim, not a particularly smart one, but a victim nonetheless. If he had enough money in the first place, this would have never happened. If Apple (and others) would have been banned from marketing their stuff like crazy, this demented consumerism would not be so damaging. Also guilty is the hospital that had an entire department contracted by a Fujian "businessman". For money, the "adult" doctors butchered a under-aged 17 years old without even asking a question, and without even having the necessary gear to perform the operation. For money, that "businessman" disappeared with the kidney and now is obviously nowhere to be found. So, again, have some compassion for the guy. karachidude
to be honest i do feel sad for the kid, even the thought of sellingones kidney, for "anythin" is depressing  but the lenght the guy went to buy this ipad thing is unprecedented and kindoff stupid,i blame bad parenting :P
HX1
My whole point would be that he would not be able to know that the hospital is incompetent ahead of time like a psychic... He also would not know this to be the outcome before it happened.. To say it was stupid... would be to play on a little dissociation to make a point about it ..IMO... Not good that it happened.. but I have seen worse happened in malpractice suits..When all of the factors of ones life are aligned in a certain way.. You begin to relate to the line of thought which would take a person t that place to make a decision to do something of this nature... Otherwise your just a joke... playing on people's perceptions in even reporting it in the fashion in which it is stated... I mean you have one person's desperate and life threatening situation on one hand... and then you have the journalist's ratings on the other..There are many people who wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire... give you a kidney... or even throw you a tarp to keep you out of the rain... Journalist is a leech.. a simply everyday.. social vampire.. simply just...that... EVEN if it had been his mother.. given the same set of circumstances... it would still be in the same place as where it is now.. But it would not be on the news and nobody would be speaking of it...in fact the boy and possibly his mother both would die and nobody would be any of the wiser... While this is hypothetical.. is probable and likely... A person does something to help themselves.. with obviously the only option they have.. they are turned into stupid, greedy.. a trendwhore... People may say do something else.. or this or that.. but all of that is still warp up in a sickening cycle of what everyone else is doing the cycle of the mess in which everything else is in control all around you... So you do 'it' however you can with nothing else behind you.. Nobody, nothing else in play... but its the boy's fault .. not the mess around.. or the failure which insues from all of th desperate, needy herd ...I disagree with taking that stance..Who knows, maybe they left in an iSponge.. :P maybe an iGlove... better be glad he didn't wake up with an iTwa_..... HX1
I honestly think that eventually with things manifesting themselves the same way as they have been.. Showing to be deficient for so many... and the economic state the way that it is and has cyclically gone.. EVENTUALLY.. we may see something much like the evolution of our history on this globe.. The problem is that it is now a globally sweeping problem.. Much like the past we are put at bay by weapons.. imprisonment and force.. When it comes to change itself... It s desperately needed .. yet nobody has the ability to break the cycle or even the financial chains to improve the world.. or any infrastructure within it.. As of yet nobody has come up with something that can be put in its place.. and if anything has been seen.. Placing boundaries and limitations on our very ability to survive, achieve, and progress.. does not work.. Any system of 'values' rather it is in number or otherwise.. has a possibility of failure... Trying to allow a few limited by their experience and familiarity with any cause fails to not only address these issues.. but also creates a prison of the situation; disallowing for that change... to ever be discussed, to ever be considered...I think that in our true animalistic nature we are probably prone to destroying everything in site.. but we still are aware of those consequences.. for the whole of the planet which includes ourselves... and that in fact, if only a whisper in our minds... we know these things to be true.. we know there is a better way.. we know that there is something better... we cannot be that blind as a planet.. including the impact we have globally and even on a very interpersonal basis... The first wrong was to ignore the basis of the cycle existent on this planet.. the true nature of ourselves... as a classified specimen..' the homosapien '.. There are many who would never allow this level of work of self sacrifice of involvement to occur not only because of being set in ones ways.. but because of what it would mean for them and the way they live... Though its idealistic to state that eventuality would allow something much more..Segregated, competitive, and controlling... its the state of our countries and lands... while pooling the resources of the planet as a whole.. There really would possibly be more than enough for everyone.. Though it would as well be thought that areas would prosper more because of the inhabitable factors.. and availability of resources as to whee this may spread out as a globe... It always seems t come down to fighting like dogs over these things... and the imbalance that exists through others aggressively being allowed to ration items that are given to us by the planet.. while we all sit back and lay claim to ownership by one entity or the other it truly does belong to the world's population as a whole..I guess you have to define apocolypse.. armageddon... We are the only ones in control here.. it is what we make it.. and this is what we have become.. this is what we are.. How far from foraging neaderthals are we really... We have overbuilt simplicity.. structured something so large in complex that we have been captured by it.. it might as well be the Matrix all over.. we sell out to the machine the minute we open our eyes everyday... we facilitate its existence... cyclically failing to break the cycle or realize solutions... Then what would we do.. continue to advance.. wonder aimlessly... What? Where would we be... Personally, think its basic as it can be... we as a whole are as simple as the rest of the animals on the planet.... Its our perception and the system of scales which effects sound judgment.. and actually forces people to make decisions they have to make.. some of us familiar with nothing else.. blind to anything better... What would break the chain..
