I think they want to only put security fixes on v4 and the new stuff goes to v5. Not bothered, as long as they're all free :P

I dunno if it's me or the optimizations I did or Diskeeper or latest updated version of Adblock plus did it, but somehow my Firefox is behaving superfast from last two weeks. It's not hogging the memory till 800MB or something, nor is feeling sluggish after opening about 40-50 tabs for an hour yesterday.

  • 4 weeks later...

There is a work around for that.. it ( well its the way I did it ) but it requires having both 4 and 3 installed at the same time and creating a second profile.. It will allow you to use extensions that are not available as of yet.. I actually had a few that were not even compatible with the version of 3 I had.. but now its down to two with the exception of one which I have yet to find a working replacement for.. Works out ok though...

I installed Fx4 in a folder named Mozilla Firefox4 instead of the normal one .. then I copied my profile and gave it a second name, added it to the profile.ini .. then ran firefox.exe -p .. selected the profile and chose to ask every time I start up.. ( that is running it through the version 3 that was still installed.. ) selected the new profile...Ran it.. used MrTech to turn off all compatibility checking... ( and after choosing to make them all compatible through the MrTech option ).. I closed the instance.. Then ran the Fx4 version canceled when it can to check the addons.. first thing.. and if any extension had been disabled I re-enabled it.. restarted and all was good.. It at least gave me something I could work with/on until I got it worked out.. uninstalling some and becoming familiar with the new ins and outs of the program and what adjustments had to be made.. Final result is the last screenshot in the 'Post Them Desktops' thread.. still have a few extensions running that claim to be incompatible.. but it seems to work out okay.. Desperately need a replacement for Blackout.. as of yet there is not one that works the same way or as well.. with a button..

But yeah it can be done.. and if it still turns them off you can go into about:config and type 'compatibility' and look for the options to turn off .. restart.. re-enable.. extensions and the restart again..

It would seem a lot of Devs are either busy or have abandoned some of their work...

Addon Compatibility Reporter is all you need to make them work on Firefox 4. :)

To my surprise, the addons that I thought were long dead, were updated for Firefox 4. The ones that aren't compatible, the above addon makes them compatible. And those who aren't compatible and even don't work properly, there are better new alternatives out there, or I just trash them, time to move on. ;)

Yeah I had to make some changes myself.. but it spawned me on to finish my objective with FF anyway.. especially with the AwesomeBar HD Extension... There was supposed another addon that would disable this as well.. but its like a ghost extension.. BUT yeah several ways... :P I go right to pulling things apart.. I forget other things exist in the planet out there sometimes.. for real.. :)
