majithia23
22.4.2011Reading like a clichéd script from a technological thriller, the son of a high profile software security firm has reportedly been kidnapped. Ivan Kaspersky, the 20-year-old offspring of security Yevgeny Kaspersky, was walking through a factory area in Moscow's northwest on the way home from work earlier this week when he was taken. Those responsible for the kidnapping are demanding a ransom of 3 million euros (about $4.3 million), according to The Moscow Times. Yevgeny Kaspersky co-founded Kaspersky Labs, a well known security vendor whose antivirus products have performed well in our evaluations. Son Ivan Kaspersky works at the Moscow-based software firm InfoWatch, which is owned by his mother and Kaspersky Lab co-founder Natalya. Ivan also attends Moscow State University. Citing LifeNews.ru, The Moscow Times says the criminals may have obtained information on Ivan's residence from his profile on social networking site Vkontakte.ru, in which Ivan left his full address of the apartment he had been living in for over a decade. Ivan moved to a new apartment a month before the kidnapping, and it's unclear whether or not he provided the new address. According to Forbes Russia, Yevgeny Kaspersky is worth about $800 million. It appears that Ivan Kaspersky was freed earlier today and is now safe from harm. LifeNews.ru, the Russian tabloid that first reported the story, claims an undisclosed sum was paid for Ivan's safe release, but whether or not that's the case is anyone's guess. Kaspersky issued the following statement: "Kaspersky Lab respectfully asks members of the media to refrain from speculating and distributing unconfirmed information about alleged events related to the Kaspersky family. Eugene Kaspersky continues his day-to-day work at the company, and has stated that the unconfirmed information being spread at the moment is harmful for the company." However it went down, we're happy Ivan is back home and out of harm's way.PC World

shought
His son is not his personal belonging, LOL!You can't protect your kids and certainly not from being kidnapped. What does he need to do, have two bodyguards walk around him all the time? That would cripple his childhood and adult life as well...

LeetPirate
I blame McAfee. :fear: No wait who else is Russian.... aha.......... Dr Web did it. :ph34r:Seriously though kidnapping is a serious thing, I would not wish it upon anyone. I know of someone who was held up at knife point and his life is not the same anymore, he's constantly looking over his shoulder. The trauma is devastating, some people get over it but not everyone. It means his alertness is showing.Next time, he might just show other people not to mess with him.People shouldn't be complacent just because it's peaceful. There are many opportunists around just waiting to strike. a2z
The guy worked in a specific area of protection of confidential information (DLP) in the firm "Infowatch". Perhaps his kidnapping was related to his work. Although now newspapers wrote that his son has returned. The father paid a ransom of ~ 3 million €P.S. And this is my country.
