Amends fair usage policy to allow customers to download as much as they want, but maintains "traffic management" policy "that will restrict certain applications and protocols, such as P2P, when the network is busy."

With most ISPs around the globe either having monthly data caps already in place or preparing to roll them out it seems, UK ISP BT is doing the opposite and ditching data caps from its fair usage policy altogether.

It says that recent improvements to its network infrastructure have allowed it to remove the restrictions it had places on "atypical" heavy users who had comprised a mere 0.5% of of BT's customers.

"As BT continues to invest in the network and network bandwidth we can now remove these restrictions and ensure the experience of the wider customer base," said BT's Mayuresh Thavapalan. "On completion there will be no individual user controls targeted at atypical users on our BT Total Broadband and BT Infinity products."

It's refreshing to see BT institute the policy rollback, especially as streaming video services comprise a larger share of consumer traffic. Now 300GB may seem like a lot now, but once you begin streaming Blu-Ray or HD content one will find the gap closing in on that amount rather quickly.

BT also says that it will maintain its "traffic management" policy "that will restrict certain applications and protocols, such as P2P, when the network is busy" so it's not entirely good news from BT.

Either way, not too many ISPs are thinking of ways to increase how much bandwidth customers can consume at the same price point.

You would have to really dumb if you believe BT wont throttle you,i think the words "traffic management" at peak times would suggest its business as usual with the lying scumbags at BT.

Avoid like the plague if you have any sense.
