nsane.forums
Company kicks off migration campaign Microsoft has launched a publicity campaign aimed at getting users to dump its Internet Explorer 6 web browser. The IE6 Countdown site provides a running count of the browser's current worldwide market share along with shares for the rest of the world, counting down IE6's dwindling stake in the browser market. The company is using the site as part of a campaign to convince users to update from IE6 to more recent editions of Internet Explorer. Microsoft has long been advising users to update from IE6, and with the browser passing its tenth birthday, the company has decided to step up pressure on users to update the browser. "Friends don't let friends use IE6, and neither should acquaintances," the company declared on the site. "There are many benefits of upgrading to a newer version of Internet Explorer, improved speed, tabbed browsing, and better privacy settings to name a few." Overall, Microsoft reports that IE6 maintains a 12 per cent market share and a large presence in Asia in particular. The browser claims 34.5 per cent of the market in China and 24.8 per cent in Korea. India, Japan and Vietnam also reported IE6 market shares of 10 per cent or more. In the UK, the browser claims a 3.5 per cent market share. In the US, 2.9 per cent of users still run IE6. There are major security concerns that can arise from using the outdated, yet still popular browser. M86 Security vice president of technical strategy Bradley Anstis said that the company's most recent Security Labs report found that an IE6 ActiveX vulnerability from 2006 remains the most popular target for web-based exploits. "From a security standpoint, there is simply no reason why anyone should be running a browser that is nearly 10 years old, as modern browsers now deploy additional security measures to help protect end users," said Anstis. Anstis recommends that IE6 users install new versions of the browser and maintain the latest security patches. View: Original Article

toyo
I just installed Firefox and Opera without any consent on any systems I have put my hands on. Made Firefox default, although my fav is Opera, but know that FF is the people's browser. And never had any complaints :P

toyo
Well, theoretically, I would have been able to fend off any "accusations", as what I was asked to do was to "improve configuration, security, clean the systems" and this kind of stuff. Even back then (2005-ish) IE6 was a security liability, so I had a big reason to restrict access to something like that.

Internet Explorer for Exploring the internet or Browsing as you term it .. thats so simple . dont you know that ..!! " 2- " dont know what Firefox is ? must be some kind of a new product by microsoft . some thing new that comes in with the new versions of windows .... " 3- " Opera . sounds cool . but i would rather not install it on my system . it might be a virus or download a virus by itself and infect my computer ..." 4- " Chrome ... ahhhh i know what you are talking about . i have seen it on Google search pages , where it says download Google Chrome . but i never tried it . i like Internet Explorer . its so simple and easy and fast . Chrome might not be as good as IE . so i dont want it ... " end of story ....!!!
Administrator DKT27 Posted March 7, 2011 Administrator Share Posted March 7, 2011 i like Internet Explorer . its so simple and easy and fast . Chrome might not be as good as IE . so i dont want it ... "This is what I always hear. Except about FF instead of Chrome. :rolleyes:IE will always be attacked whether M$ or IE fanboys like it or not. With all the marketing and "trust of IE", hackers will keep on targeting it.
