There's light at the end of the tunnel.

Mozilla is planning to spin the first release candidate for Firefox 4 this Friday and the code is aimed to be released to beta testers as early as next Wednesday, March 9, developers said during a call today.

It's a major milestone. The first of 12 beta test versions of Firefox 4 was made available last June.

Of course, the RC could be available earlier if Quality Assurance signs off faster than expected. Beta 12, for instance, was made available last Friday, a few days before the expected date.

It is the first release candidate and a number of bugs have yet to be worked out but the team expects to ship the final Firefox 4 this month.

A number of printing issues were reported following the release of beta 12 late last week but those problems have been largely fixed, one developer said during a meeting today.

Firefox 4 is the non-profit organisation's next-generation web browser based on version 2.0 of the Gecko rendering platform (the Firefox 3.6 branch uses Gecko 1.9.2) and features a new Add-ons Manager and extension management API, as well as a new tabs-on-top layout. Early last month, the Mozilla Foundation confirmed that, following version 4, it plans to release Firefox 5, 6 and 7 this year.

Once the final version of Firefox 4 is released, Mike Beltzner, the organisation's Director of Firefox, has confirmed that he will be leaving Mozilla to join a company called DownUnder GeoSolutions, a small company that specialises in the field of 2D/3D seismic interpretation and other geological applications.

+1. :smartass:

Just a bit off topic guys. McAfee Siteadvisor, which is one of the 50 most used addons for FF4, is most likely to be blocked in RC and Final. Reasons, lots and lots of bugs caused by this addon. And McAfee doesn't seem to care saying that they will be releasing a fixed version in 3-4 weeks. -_-

McAfee addon is now the only hardblocker left (ATM). ^_^
