After today's big announcement of Windows 7 SP1 coming later this month on February 22, 2010, Microsoft has just posted an update about the upcoming Office 2010 SP1 update.

Microsoft typically releases a service pack 12-18 months after a major release, and Office 2010 will be no exception. Consumers can expect a public release of Office 2010 SP1 between May and November of this year.

The upcoming release of Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010 SP1 will include all the previously released updates that are made available through Windows Update, and will include some minor updates. For consumers who keep updated on the Patch Tuesday releases, you are already enjoying some of the advantages of Office 2010 Service Pack 1.

Although Microsoft haven't announced any new features coming with SP1 to Office 2010, we can expect that they will include performance and stability enhancements to the software.

During Microsoft's second-quarter earnings report, the company reiterated that Office 2010 was the fastest selling version of Office in history, selling one copy every second. Office 2010 has already sold double what Office 2007 did, in the same time period since its launch. Microsoft also noticed that SharePoint 2010 have sold 100-million licenses so far, and is used by more than 17,000 consumers.
