OMG... I swear if I see that question one more time.... :lmao:

In no particular order the average softwares that are preferred most..

1. UD3

2. DiskKeeper

3. O&O Defrag

4. PerfectDisk

IMO, depending on your system, types of usage and objectives..

EDIT: BTW I have a fix for BootTime Defrag for UD3.. simple.. but I used Hiren's to use GetData Back NTFS.. recovered/merged from backup MFT.. changed nothing rebooted defragged and then was able to start doing BootTime again.. Cam to the fix by actually trying to figure out where these HUGE like 7 GB files came from in the recycle bin.. that did not show up in the file system.. ( happen when I tried to shred my recycle bin in Safe Mode ).. anyway fixed a few issues all at once...

That's good news heath. Well, I do have a mp3 or two in C drive's recycle bin, but it's not visible in normal Bin. Maybe my sister had deleted it from her user account, I dunno. Would it be visible in Safe mode?

ANW, about the question. I'm using DK right now and it's quite good for a automatic defrag. But seriously, there would probably be no powerful defrag software than UD. It's just ultimate raw power and customization.

I don't like UD because i dont know how to customize it and the boot time defrag does not work. Im just a regular user, i want a fully automatic defrag software but i think i stay with PerfectDisk. Last time i tried O&O it used too much resources not only when its defragging but when its idle(the background guard).

Forgot to answer your question.. BUt.. What happened with mine is that I had started to upgrade ESET.. so I went into Safe Mode to run the Uninstaller from the site.. once that was done I had to delete all of the program files and User Data... After I did that I decided to run Eraser and Shred the Recycle Bin... It acted like it was stuck.. but in actuality it was writing these huge files.. as .LNK or shortcuts... which seemed odd.. but as there are usually issues wit this sometimes.. like shredding the target instead.. and some other problems... Anyway I stopped it in the middle of the operation like three times... by the time I finished I had about 17 GB left instead of 40 GB.. so I was like WTH..

Now when the upgrading of UD3 came about.. somewhere in there it started to not be able to do BootTime Defrag somewhere around .17 while it has worked before and I had noticed issues with the MFT Size... so that issue started a long time ago... After I reinstalled ESET and imported settings I went in to run UD3 and it showed these huge files on my drive.. yet in their location no file was present... So I thought this was maybe an error in removing them from the MFT possibly.. while breaking the Erasing operation.. and know the files where nowhere near being that size to begin with... I did find several folders for each one of the accounts for the machine.. and those were easily accessible later on and emptied... no problem.. but even though you delete the recycle bin some files still remain behind... for instance in the RECYCLER folder..

SO my first though was use a recovery software to get the files back in the MFT... didn't work.. so I booted in Hiren's MiniXP.. and after several things and thinking about it.. I went into GetData Back NTFS and just stayed with some default selections.. which had something to do with MFT.. took a few seconds for it to merge the backup MFT with the Current MFT.. which I'm guessing fixed the problem created by UD3 during some of the versions and updates ( as shown in the change logs at the time )... Without knowing I had fixed it.. the next step I did was a Drive Shredder..not the whole drive.. just the empty space.. This took away one file.. or about half of the space that was not supposed to be taken... I also went in to the RECYCLER and deleted everything in there.. tcpip.sys and another file from Eset which was odd.. but gone now..

I rebooted and then went in and noticed still I had the same issue.. so I ran the One Pass Eraser Shredder of the Recycle Bin again... I then right-clicked the Recycle Bin and set the space reserved to 0 from 300 MB... hit apply and Okay.. and checked the drive.. and I had over 40 GB back.. I did a few more operations/installs.. and ran UD3.. did an Auto Defrag.. noticed my MFT Reserved was larger as well as my MFT.. I then set it to try a BootTime to see if removing these files or anything had changed possibly.. and it ran perfect...

For yours I would do some of the same things if you have a problem like that.. except I would try seeing if here Recycle Bin shows the file or not or of it needs to be emptied.. sometimes the versions of the recycle bin will hang around for whatever reason taking up space until you get rid of them ... If your running as Admin and showing all folders and files it should show up.. unless you have a corrupt MFT... BTW I used Hirens 11 RE.. as I haven't found the time or bothered buying a disc to burn to...

Anyway I think this could be part of the problem for some who have issues with the BootTime Defrag Module... and/or odd file system occurrences.. best to backup beforehand.. and look into it... Was easier to fix than I thought at first.. but I was all over trying to figure it out...

Auto Defrag will defrag the drive now faster for w/e reason.. and it seems to have been a good thing for the system...

May want to move this to an appropriate UD topic..
