Galaxy Ace, Fit, Mini and Gio to be showcased at Mobile World Congress

Samsung has added four Android smartphones to its high-end Galaxy range ahead of next month's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The Galaxy Ace heads up the latest additions, and could attract enterprise users with its 3.5in form factor, high-end specifications and preloaded apps.

Samsung will ship the Galaxy Ace with Android 2.2 and an 800MHz processor, and the 3.2in HVGA TFT-LCD display will come with a resolution of 320 x 480. Other hardware features include a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and micro-SD card support.

Preloaded apps that enterprise users may find useful include the ThinkFree document viewer and editor, RSS Reader, Exchange ActiveSync, Google Navigation, Voice Search and Swype.

The inclusion of a unified inbox and the ability to integrate contacts and the calendar may also prove useful business tools.

Other new Samsung devices include the Gio, which has an 800MHz processor but is slightly smaller than the Ace with a 3.2in display, the Galaxy Fit, a mid-range device with a 3.31in QVGA display and 600MHz processor, and the Galaxy Mini, which Samsung is touting as the ideal device for first time smartphone buyers.

All the handsets will come with Android 2.2, Samsung's TouchWiz 3.0 overlay and access to Android Market and Samsung Apps.

Simon Stanford, managing director of mobile at Samsung UK and Ireland, claimed that the extended portfolio offers something for everyone "regardless of whether it's their first or fifth smartphone purchase".

"Following the phenomenal success of the Galaxy S and the growing popularity of Android, we wanted to make the smartphone experience accessible to a wider audience through an extended portfolio," he said.

The Galaxy Ace, Fit and Mini are expected to be available in March, with the Gio to follow in April. Prices are yet to be confirmed.

V3.co.uk will publish video demonstrations of the devices when they are showcased at Mobile World Congress from 14 to 17 February. Samsung is also expected to launch the successor to the Galaxy S at the show.
