nsane.forums
Users will be able to sandbox risky applications Security vendor Avast is adding software virtualisation tools to its full line of security and antivirus tools. The company said that it would be offering the virtualisation tools as a method for isolating, or 'sandboxing' applications. The product will allow users to isolate certain applications, limiting their activity to only run within the virtual sandbox environment. By running an application on a virtualised machine rather than on the user's local system, the tool can help to isolate possible malware samples and prevent a larger infection. The company believes that by offering users the sandbox tool, it can help to limit the scope and impact of malware spreading in the wild. "AutoSandbox shifts virtualization from being an IT geek specialty to an automatic, easily accessible safety feature for all avast users," said Avast chief technical officer Ondrej Vlcek. "It‘s a win-win for users, if the item is dangerous it just shuts down the virtual computer and the user‘s real machine remains safe. And, if the item is safe, there is no hassle from a false positive." The company said that it will be bundling the sandboxing features into its Free Antivirus, Pro Antivirus and Internet Security Suite platforms.
