Administrator DKT27 Posted January 21, 2011 Administrator Share Posted January 21, 2011 Although the initial plan was to release the tenth Beta development milestone of Firefox 4.0 and then move to the Release Candidate stage, it now appears that the next iteration of the open source browser will linger in Beta just a tad longer. How much longer? Well, for at least one extra release. Fact is that Firefox 4.0 Beta 10 will be followed by Beta 11 and not by the first RC. Responsible for this are the vulnerabilities that still plague Firefox 4.0, over 90 hard blockers according to a count did by Asa Dotzler, community coordinator for Firefox marketing projects earlier this week. However, although Mozilla is now planning to add an extra Beta to the 10 planned at the start of the development process, chances are that the company could still meet a late February 2011 release deadline for Firefox 4.0. "We will release beta 10 as soon as possible during the week of the 24th," revealed Christian Legnitto, Firefox release manager at Mozilla. This means that by the end of next week, early adopters will be able to take Firefox 4.0 Beta 10 out for a spin. According to Legnitto, Firefox 4.0 Beta 11 will follow closely the Beta 10 release, with Mozilla pushing releases at an accelerated pace. After all, Firefox 4.0 should have been finalized and delivered to end users by November 2010, and the browser vendor is too close to having the project delayed even further into 2011 than just February. "We will release beta 11 as soon as possible during the week of the 31st," Legnitto added. This means that if everything goes well, Mozilla will be done with the Firefox 4.0 Beta phase in just a couple of weeks, after which the company will produce the first RC Build. Eternal X
Way to many betas man Firefox needs to drop a browser already instead of teasing people, unlike google, and safari, no bs.
Bizarre™
@Eternal X:That's why Firefox is popular, because they sure fix serious bugs before shipping out final. If you have been using nightly builds like me, then you should know what I'm talking about. The more they work with these problem, the better and more stable the final version of FF 4 will be (though I have to say, that the suspense from the waiting is killing me too and they have been at it way too long, but that's a totally new browser for you, lots of polishing to do, :P)EDIT reason: fixed a typo, :P

Administrator DKT27 Posted January 22, 2011 Author Administrator Share Posted January 22, 2011 Well I am totally ready for 4.. with all the hype.. but I am not liking it... my extensions are not all compatible...I really like what I have now.. :(There are ways to make them work. But patience, yesterday I got a update for a addon that hasn't been updated since ages, it didn't show any changelog, nor, it's on Mozilla addons, but, I feel it's an update to make it work with Firefox 4. If least known addons could get updates, so shall your addons. :)Too bad I don't think that Tamper Data will be available for v4. I love that addon. Maybe new alternatives may have released.
HX1
Well.. my fear comes into play when I already have extensions which I have to make compatible for 3.6.13.. and they have yet to be made compatible though most work regardless with no problems.. in fact I would not use them if they impeded proper use...Then I have some that are really old and I think abandoned.. and quite a few more that I know will officially update..Just worries me... and I do know that some will actually cause some major conflicts of interest in 4... At the moment, the add-ons that aren't compitable for me are: Better Gmail 2, Delicious Bookmarks (I have most of my bookmarks there and I don't doubt they will update it for FF4), the DivX web player plugins, FaceTweak, FastestFox, Fission, OneClick YouTube Downloader (Orbit add-on for flash video download), Seachbar Autosizer, SkipScreen and TweakMDB. So A LOT of them, and I REALLY miss most of 'em, :(.
Bizarre™
I have some add-ons that are incompatible with Firefox 4.0 ( e.g., BossKey, FireFTP, Snap Links Plus, etc. ) , but I'm still crossing my fingers for the developers to update them ^_^
Sl@pSh0ck™
I gave up some of my add-ons due to incompatibility with FF4 beta ... no regrets so far ... loving how FF4 is coming into shape :dance2:
Administrator DKT27 Posted January 22, 2011 Author Administrator Share Posted January 22, 2011 @ll master j: About half of the addons you mentioned should get an update or alternatives should be available for them.@Bizarre: FireFTP was updated just 2-3 months ago. So I guess it would be on way for the Firefox 4 final. :)Lets rewind to the time Firefox 3 was released. Many of the FF2 addons didn't work. Many people refused to use the FF3, but in the end all of them had to move on, and as far as I remember, FF2 didn't have as many addons as FF3 has now, so with JetPack just around the corner, the numbers and the suitable addons are only going to improve. JessicaLeigh
I have 8 of 12 add-ons that are disabled in v4b9... ones I use frequently, like PDF It, BitComet, MultiRow Bookmarks Toolbar, etc. What will be interesting will be comparing v4f to 3.6.13 once all the add-ons are working in v4. Bizarre™
Just downloaded Build 1 of Beta 10, and so far I like the changes. I hope Mozilla releases it soon so tete009 can start making a custom build ^_^
