nsane.forums
Mobile Security Business Edition armed with remote admin support functionality Security vendor Eset has unveiled new software designed to protect the growing number of smartphones and pocket PCs used by mobile workers. Eset Mobile Security Business Edition has been released in beta for public testing, and protects devices running Windows Mobile and Symbian operating systems. The software features remote administration support which allows administrators to remotely scan, audit and adjust firewall settings and spam filter logs, as well as send a message via a console or update the virus database, according to the firm. Also included is anti-theft, remote wiping, firewall, anti-spam and password protection. Mobile Security Business Edition shares many of the same threat protection technologies as Eset's regular Mobile Security line, including heuristic detection for zero-day protection and a quarantine option to isolate threats. Automatic virus updates can be scheduled on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, while scanning and cleaning of onboard and removable memory is also possible. All files incoming or leaving via wireless connections are scanned for infiltrations, said Eset. Experts are divided over the scale of the threat to mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, but their increasing use in the corporate sphere is forcing IT managers to look at ways to secure the mobile workforce. Mark James, technical manager at Eset, warned that attackers can easily get access to sensitive corporate data via hacked mobile devices. "With mobile assets all contacts, calendars, documents or photos stored on the device must be properly secured," he added. "This can be done by encrypting the whole device or creating a secure container. Thus, even if the device is lost, the thief can't access the confidential company information stored on it."
