nsane.forums
Today’s level of copyright can’t coexist with the right to communicate in private. If I’m sending an e-mail to you, that e-mail may contain a piece of music. If we are in a video chat, I may drop a copyrighted video clip there for both of us to watch. The only way to detect this, in order to enforce today’s level of copyright, is to eliminate the right to private correspondence. That is, to eavesdrop on all ones and zeros going to and from all computers. There is no way to allow the right to private correspondence for some type of content, but not for other types: you must break the seal and analyze the contents to sort it into allowed and disallowed. At that point, the seal is broken. Either there is a seal on everything, or on nothing. So we are down to a crossroads. We, as a society, can say that copyright is the most important thing we have, and give up the right to talk in private. Either that, or we say that the right to private correspondence has greater value, in which case such correspondence can be used to transfer copyrighted works. There is no middle ground.Once you accept that copyright must be scaled back, a whole palette of advantages to that scenario become apparent. Two billion human beings would have 24/7 access to all of humanity’s collective knowledge and culture. That’s a much larger leap for civilization than when public libraries arrived in 1850. No public cost or new tax is involved. All the infrastructure is already in place. The technology has been developed, and the tools are deployed: all we have to do is lift the ban on using them. What surprised me recently was the level of understanding of this within the copyright industry, and how they persistently try to eradicate the right to private correspondence in order to safeguard current disputed levels of copyright.A cable leaked by WikiLeaks just before Christmas outlined a checklist given to the Swedish government with demands from the US copyright industry, IIPA. The U.S. Embassy was quite appreciative of how the Swedish justice department was “fully on board” and had made considerable progress on the demands against its own citizens, but in favor of the US copyright industry. In those demands were pretty much every big-brother law enacted in the past several years. Data retention, IPRED, three strikes, police access to IP records for petty crimes, abolishment of the mere conduit messenger immunity, everything was in there. It became clear that the copyright industry is actively driving a Big Brother society, as it understands that this path would be the only way to save copyright.Myself, I think it’s more than time to throw that industry out of the legislative process. HX1
You know.. the Internet was never really to be a market place to begin with.. and what kills me.. is that we are supposed to have, use, share, and enjoy artist creations... Without the 'sharing' of these things.. there is NO reason.. nor any purpose of its existence.. The minute that it became a commercialized thing.. The day that the system of barter and trade came into existence.. and we realized we could do nothing without using this system.. was the day that it all became a problem..The whole system is built on it.. Artist have to have the time to be creative... to do this they have to support their lives.. as do anyone else involved in this process...The only way to do this is to take the thing and turn it into money... This proceeds to become an issue wrapped in legality.. and bottom-feeders...Everyone are looking for a way to get the monetary so they can have a good life.. its the basis of our existence with... everything else.. being able to live well.. and be happy...again the only way to make this happen is money...I could ramble on until I twist even myself up in the truth of the tangled web.. which sux to even exist within..Point here.. is that .. the industry in every way defiles the true nature of the art.. no matter what it is.. Some say it reveres it and allows it to be spread to many people through the resources in which it creates.. and while this may be true... there is also the necessary casualty along the way... but that casualty itself destroys it.. Another reason why the technology exists today to produce your own music... and even bring it to market without the gouging of all of the middle men and lawyers.. and battles.. and huge costs.. cutting out 80% of the BS involved.. and waste I might add...Art was never to have other overtones.. in its purity it was supposed to be created to communicate itself.. and an idea.. not with overtones of the industry.. no be tainted by this completely... You look at a piece of art or hear a song on the radio... and instead of feeling or hearing what it is saying.. all we see anymore are lawsuits.. fighting.. and big business.. and copyright warnings.. because of the fear.. because of the system failing horribly to deliver while we still keep trying to feed it.. yet it won't grow and it won't improve.. while we do everything but what needs to be done.. and that would be change... evolve.. adapt..How could any artist be proud of that? .. Next we have it bleeding into or lives and taking our freedoms.. destroying our ability to survive... Taking our privacy and even effecting our minds...making it some sickening disgusting mess .. poisoned by what it has come to represent... and what so many are even driven to do.. because of it..Our music used to talk about freedom from oppression and dawning of a new day and era... Today.. what we see... instead.. is it, creating the problem... Who has it been sold-out to? .. and who next.. It used to represent life itself... Now all we have is... it deceiving us all.. and in the end creating the death of everything.. I mean what .. did they just get smarter than the revolution itself.. and find a way.. to oppress enough to trigger the domino effect to have it happen.. I don't think so... Then it in itself would be coming with militant control in retaliation which was never what it was ever about to begin with... It seems we would eat our own face if we could...I feel sometimes that its nothing better than prostitution... Profiteering on the backs of people who want to do nothing more than live and breathe.. and be happy.. within their lives and their experiences... to be this greedy and go this far... its sacrilege of the idea..but in truth may be the only thing that some may even know of it anymore.. which is void of anything worthy..Money does mean happiness these days and we have allowed it to be the only thing we think of... How could we allow something to take control and govern our existence like this.. Its horrible...I mean what next.. thought crimes...???People too stupid to do nothing more than operate as mindless bots... going through the motions.. as long as they can break away for a hit on their crack-pipe...of life and suck down a 'piece of ass'.. and a little piece. of this and little piece of that.. to get a momentary 'Hit' of relief.. from their inevitable humanity.. ( and the problem they have created from it ) creeping in to force them back into the cyclic grind to exist... Yet the will to achieve and actually obtain the real thing is gone.. while it is exploited right under your nose... right in front of you.. and you say ' Why thank you sir .. may I please have another .. 'To insight blind anger would be dissociative ... at any direction ... not a rant.. but my thoughts..The failure of the industry is because people want it.. hmm ( even though single sales sky-rocketed 1000% of which there are no rotating production and distribution costs and what of it there are could be compared to not being there at all when you measure that up against physical sales and production ) ...They ( people ) had rather have something real in their hearts, ears, and minds.. not to pay for some shallow garbage that does a half-ass job of getting to the point.. that fits a slim demographic of where the money lies.. that wouldn't really get it anyway ) ..and not to be destroyed by the under-development of over built greed... We want to see life in our art.. we want to really feel what has already been taken... .. and we want to still progress.. is it for what we want .. or on someone else's terms.. wrapped up in this cycle.. blind to what really needs to be done.. and where..NOT more of the same.. right here is where I insert and send out my thesis of Fuck YOU's.. lets not get it misdirected.. or misunderstand its aim...
