nsane.forums
British lawyers for WikiLeaks founder believe that Julian Assange's extradition to Sweden could risk his future, as Stockholm would not hesitate to send the outspoken Australian to the U.S. where he could face a death penalty or be detained at Guantanano Bay. "There is a real risk that he could be made subject to the death penalty. It is well-known that prominent figures have implied, if not stated outright, that Mr Assange should be executed," his lawyers said while outlining defense for the extradition hearing in London. Assange's team will use lawyer Geoffrey Robertson's arguments to fight the extradition request on February 7-8 at a London court. Robertson described Swedish prosecutors as corrupt in their behavior over allegations of sex crimes. According to him, prosecutors should not have released his name to media and leaked proofs against him. He also questioned prosecutors' decision of refusing Assange's request to accept his offer to give an interview before the warrant was issued. He also challenged Swedish prosecutor Marianne Ny's authority to issue a European arrest warrant after which British authorities arrested Assange last month. He also asked who gave Swedish national police board the authority to issue such warrants. He was bailed on December 16 after spending nine days in custody. Assange's WikiLeaks famously released thousands of secret U.S. cables, which angered the international community. Robertson also questioned the alleged victims' credibility and his document instead said, "Mr Assange has been the victim of a pattern of illegal and/or corrupt behavior by the Swedish Prosecuting Authorities."
