jalaffa
WinRAR is a general purpose archiving and compression program competing with/replacing programs such as PKZip, ARJ, and others. It offers significantly improved compression ratios, easier use and a cheaper price as well as supporting long file names, disk spanning, and self-extracting file creation.Download
Administrator DKT27 Posted January 4, 2011 Administrator Share Posted January 4, 2011 Wonder when will final release. As per beta changelog bugs I've read, the developer doesn't really seem to test it before releasing it.

portage
Sorry for the naive questionIs it better than 7zip?This is based on user opinion. In my opinion yes it is better because I notice that on a big rar or zip file (usually 200 mb) Winrar takes about 30 - 40 seconds to extract while 7zip takes 2 minutes. I find Winrar to be faster than 7zip but 7zip is free (even though price doesn't matter on this forum ).
Administrator DKT27 Posted January 5, 2011 Administrator Share Posted January 5, 2011 Sorry for the naive questionIs it better than 7zip?You can find some opinions here. :)@portage: 7zip is more better in compression and speed as it uses advanced methods and all the cores of the CPU. But somehow, never felt to make it my main compression tool. :dunno:What I really love about WinRAR is that it offers this "Archive" tab in the file properties. This allows me to see compression % without opening it. This only works when you select it as the default archiver, wished 7zip could do this. :(

portage
@DKT27 well i don't know I find compression to also be faster on winrar. But what I love the most about Winrar is the simplicity. I mean the only things you have to know are how make make a locked archive, how to compress an archive, and how to extract an archive. All of that is pretty straightforward in Winrar but not really in 7zip.
