A Japanese woman is suing Google over a revealing Street View image, according to a report out of The Telegraph UK. The unidentified woman is asking for 600,000 Yen (US$7163) due to psychological distress caused by the publication of a Street View image that showed her skivvies presumably hanging on a clothesline to dry. According to the court documents, the woman's obsessive-compulsive disorder was exacerbated by the sight of the her underwear on the Internet and her anxiety became overwhelming. Fearing she was being watched and the potential target of a sex crime, she moved from her residence and was fired from her job.

While her case might be extreme, this is a problem that continues to plague Google's Street View service, especially in Japan. In 2009, Google had to re-shoot parts of the island nation due to the camera height of the Google Street view vehicles. The cameras extended above most of the fences in Japan and captured images of people in their backyards with their laundry hanging on clotheslines. Enough people complained about the sight of their hanging underwear that Google lowered the camera by 16 inches and re-filmed 15 cities including major cities like Osaka and Tokyo. Unfortunately for this lady and others out there like her, the cameras still caught the occasional embarrassing moment.

If the street view camera can see your underwear, other people can too, stop bitching about it, jeez.

Privacy ends the second you move out of your house, if you disagree, stay in your house :P

I think .. as it states.. that the woman has problems nobody can confront.. If we were all sued or tortured every time something one of us.. any of us.. did.. ( Rather it was through a long chain of events or direct cause and effect ) set off someone with a mental problem or disorder of some kind... The world would be at the mercy of it... and there wouldn't be anything left to sue for... I often wondered about things like this when have people who simply don't get it or have been developmentally challenged in some way.. when they start talking about violence, revenge, payback, or some form of compensation.. even emotionally... How much sense it actually makes to continue to empower the very problem which can be the cause of a one-sided pain... That usually is something VERY simple.. and not something that people can allow to occur.. or take place or the things we do and how we exist would be exploited, compromised.. who knows what else.. Maybe they would all find a way to make us crazy instead.. Like 1800's ( and early 1900's ) Insane Asylum testing facilities...

It is what I am wondering in the back of my mind...and the fact that there seems to be no end... ( Besides that.. when you get done with $7,000 paying the lawyer to fight Google.. and even probably simple expenses.. you really are not going to have a whole lot left when its done... BUT you know what.. I bet they just write her a check and laugh it off.. )

The images that were taken by Street View cars were of inside, but, probably visible part of her house and Google has to right to scan private properties. As for the Street View camera, I heard that it was too high before, and many many houses were victim of their personal properties being on Street View. And as the first post mentions, they have lowered the camera's height to avoid that.

This is not the first time someone has sued Google over Street View. Just about 15 days ago, a couple in US had won a case against Google when they saw photo of their house's inside on Street View. They sued Google for $1 and they got it.

It doesn't end even if you don't leave the house :P

Of coarse, if you take battery out of your mobile phone , unplug TV sets, set-top boxes, laptops, PC boxes, well ... maybe you're good then :)

No because on that note.. You would have to be born way out in the country without the help of the doctor.. without any knowledge of your birth.. No public birth record or social security card and probably nothing but home school from your parents... Then.. never had an official job.. just manual labor type things.. and never existed to anyone NOR ever had a phone, bill, or anything else in your name... THEN and only then ... AND I almost forgot never known anyone.. LOL
