nsane.forums
Browser update is also faster to install and lets users group tabs Norwegian firm Opera has unveiled the latest version of its browser, which comes with a range of new functions and features designed to entice users away from rivals such as Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer. Opera 11's enhancements include tab stacking, which lets users group tabs on the top of the browser into a series of drop-down menus so relevant tabs can be kept together and the tab bar at the top is left uncluttered. The ability to add extensions has been introduced to enable users to customise the browser with widgets that help increase productivity, the firm said, while another new feature allows users to create their own search shortcuts for any web page. For example, you can create a shortcut for YouTube that means any time you type the word 'you' followed by the search term into the search box in the top right hand corner it will search the video site directly. The firm has also reduced the size of the software's installer by 30 per cent to help those with slow internet connections to more easily install the browser. Opera co-founder Jon Von Tetzchner told V3.co.uk: "Many users access the internet on weak connections still, such as on crowded Wi-Fi networks in hotels or through mobile data cards in their laptops, so by reducing the installer for Opera 11 by 30 per cent we can make it a lot easier to install. "Similarly, the addition of extensions so that people can download and add widgets to their browser is a major issue for many users and one of the main things people tell us they miss when they come to Opera from Firefox, so we've now addressed that." Von Tetzchner said he was confident the new browser would prove popular with users and said the company was seeing an increased brand awareness in the internet market. "We now have 50 million active users of our desktop products, 80 million on the mobile side and one million downloads per day and I am optimistic about how this browser will be received," he said. "Awareness is growing all the time for a number of reasons, such as the browser ballot and the addition of our browser to the iPhone, as well as organic growth too and we think this is the best browser we have made to date." ROMANTICGUY50
Opera 11 final brings add-on support, tab stacks, and big-time performance gainsby Lee Mathews on December 16, 2010 at 07:00 AMFILED UNDER: webPrint this page|EmailShare on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on DiggShare on LifestreamLess than two days ago, the first Opera 11 release candidate appeared. After a frenzy of developer activity to patch any remaining bugs -- and two more RC builds in the next 20 hours -- Opera has released version 11.Perhaps the single biggest addition to Opera 11 is extension support. With Download Squad favorites like LastPass now starting to appear, and with the process to port extensions from Chrome and Safari a trivial task, Opera 11 users will have plenty of additional customizations to choose from. Opera also announced a holiday extension contest to get the ball rolling. The closing date is December 31st, so if you've got an idea for a slick add-on get it in fast an you could a nice little prize pack and $200 to spend at the online shop of your choice. So what else is new in Opera 11? It's faster than ever, with updates to Presto (the layout engine), Carakan (the JavaScript engine), and Vega (its graphics library), resulting in a big performance bump over Opera 10.6x. Opera 11 also features a number of privacy and security enhancements, improved gesture support, and a better integrated email app. For control freaks, Opera 11 adds on-demand loading for plug-ins like Flash and Silverlight, and more flexible rules for accepting and rejecting cookies.Support for the latest Web code is built-in, too -- including HTML5 features like geolocation, Websockets, and push notifications. It's also easier than ever to run Opera from your USB flash drive, thanks to the new portable install option. All in all, Opera 11 is an alternative browser which is well worth your consideration.Download Opera 11 for Windows, Mac, or Linux

Administrator DKT27 Posted December 18, 2010 Administrator Share Posted December 18, 2010 Yes it's frontpaged. But, because this article looks like a software news and not a download thread, I've merged it with a already existing news article about the release of Opera 11, here in Software News. :)
