I have recently ported my windows pro over to new hardware, thus far no problems encountered. However Acro 7 pro has noticed this fact and wont play nicely.

ok, so i go through the serial, activation, thing ;) and no joy. Acro 7 wants to connect to adobe for a new activation etc.

Does any one know of a tool to remove acro 7 completely in the same way tools are out there to do the same for the various nero's. Ive already removed in the normal way with xp control panel and with Crap cleaner removal tool with the same results ;)

If you've uninstalled the application properly, and you're adament that it's no longer in your hard drive directly, i.e C:\Program Files\ or such, it might be worth doing the following. If you have it reinstalled, uninstall it using either Add / Remove Programs or CCleaner. Check to make sure it's removed in the installation directory. Finally run a registry cleaner such as the one found in CCleaner. That should remove any registry entries of the offending app.

I would advise against using Adobe's Acrobat software where possible. A better alternative IMO, would be Foxit Reader which is also free.

foxit reader is imo no such thing as acrobat PRO

reader ok, but pro no

why would you advise against using adobe software anyway?

ok it's bloated, but it does the job. foxit reader i agree is faster than acrobat reader.

But pro? That's a hell of a different story for powerusers.

Well I missed the "pro" in the original post, but I still stand by what I said.

I didn't say I was against Adobe software. Just because software that "does the job" doesn't neccessarily mean it's the best on the market. Adobe make some excellent products, namely Fireworks, Dreamweaver & Photoshop.

All I'm saying is that there are alternatives, and yes some of them are (again IMO) better than Adobe's offering. There are so many criticisms regarding Adobe's effort, most notably their inclusion of javascript support which can (as I understand it) be vunerable to malicious code via the application.

You're also looking at 22.3MB for Adobe's application. The creators of the PDF format. Or under 2MB for Foxit.

So pray tell me why the need for an application which is over 10x larger than a suitable alternative? I understand that the file sizes are relatively small for this day and age, but would you still feel the same if it was 1995 and dial-up was all you could use? Would you still feel the same if the file sizes were much larger, i.e 800MB & 80MB respectively. I for one would be thinking there was something wrong there, wouldn't you?

Don't even get me started on the startup times. You load up Adobe's venture and you're looking at the splash screen for what seems like an eternity. Doing the same with Foxit and you don't have time to blink before it's up.

If you're happy with using Adobe, then continue to do so. My original post was to offer a better alternative whilst trying to help FJH sort out the problem that was caused by (you guessed it) Adobe.

Hope you get your upgrade / .dll problem sorted out ;)

In the meantime, here's the Professional version of Foxit which I just downloaded.

thanks for the replies. yeah im no great fan of acro either however creating is the reason it still has house room on my PC.

as i said i've tried uninstalling -reinstalling twice now. it accepts the gen-ed activation ok wait a few sec and blah blah blah contact Adobe etc

i was wondering if any peeps know of a specialist cleaner for ACROBAT PRO (7) to start another one from 'clean' etc.

i could search every last 'Adobe' reg entry and delete etc. as i have other adobe products running i'd have to re-install those too.

bit of a last resort though.....

anyway another day at work beckons :(

do you have a :pirate: for 8.1?

mine wont upgrade from 8.0

I suggest you use the ZWT keygen and don't crack 8.0, just activate it :(, then you can update successful.

Did you try my suggestions with regards to removing the offending registry keys for Adobe Acrobat? CCleaner should remove obsolete keys if the main executable for them cannot be found. You should show "Unused File Extension", and possibly "Missing Shortcut Reference".

In any case I'll upload Adobe Pro when I'm next using Newsgroups for the latest working version.

If you're that much in a hurry for it, Foxit Pro which I uploaded will do the job just as good without sacrificing HD space and system resources.

I am not sure if PrimoPDF has all the features of Acrobat Professional 8.1.. but for a free software it is pretty decent.

I guess I am too late for the Foxit D/L as both RS and Fileho bave deleted them. Thank you anyway !!

They're still on there, I just downloaded it myself. Please ensure you type in the correct confirmation code, or it'll ask you to try again. Watch out for O's and 0's.
