TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- Iran's parliament on Wednesday voted in favor of a bill that could lead to the death penalty for persons convicted of working in the production of pornographic movies.

With a 148-5 vote in favor and four abstentions, lawmakers present at the Wednesday session of the 290-seat parliament approved that "producers of pornographic works and main elements in their production are considered corrupter of the world and could be sentenced to punishment as corrupter of the world."

The term, "corrupter of the world" is taken from the Quran, the Muslims' holy book, and ranks among the highest on the scale of an individual's criminal offenses. Under Iran's Islamic Penal Code, it carries a death penalty.

The "main elements" referred to in the draft include producers, directors, cameramen and actors involved in making a pornographic video.

The bill also envisages convictions ranging from one year imprisonment to a death sentence for the main distributors of the movies and also producers of Web sites in which the pornographic works appear.

Besides videos, the bill covers all electronic visual material, such as DVDs and CDs. Other material, such as porn magazines and books, are already banned under Iranian law.

To become law, the bill requires an approval by the Guardian Council, a constitutional watchdog in Iran.

It is widely believed that the drafting of the bill came about as a reaction to a scandal last year, when a private videotape, apparently belonging to Iranian actress Zahra Amir Ebrahimi and allegedly showing her having intercourse with a man, became available across Iran.

The videotape was leaked to the Internet and released on a black market DVD, becoming a full-blown Iranian sex tape scandal. Ebrahimi later came under an official investigation, which is still ongoing. She faces fines, whip lashing or worse for her violation of Iran's morality laws.

The unnamed man on the tape, who is suspected of releasing it, reportedly fled to Armenia but was subsequently returned to Iran and charged with breach of public morality laws. He remains in jail.

In an exclusive interview with the British newspaper The Guardian early this year, Ebrahimi denied she was the woman in the film and dismissed it as a fake, made by a vengeful former fiance bent on destroying her career.

In recent years, private videotapes have increasingly been leaked to the public in Iran, riling the government and many in this conservative Islamic country, where open talk of sex is banned and considered taboo.

However, pornographic material is easily accessible through foreign satellite television channels in Iran. Bootleg videotapes and CDs are also available on the black market on many street corners.

A few months back a man was talking to his wife at bus stop i that country. A university student took offense to this because it is against the Koran to talk to ANY woman in a public place so the student stabbed the man to death right on the street..... the police have yet to charge him with anything because what he did is considered RIGHT by that very same council that pass the above mentioned law..... and the world and most Americans wonder why that government sponsors terror acts upon the USA :wacko:

I think something is wrong here ;

I better know iranians , couse I growed up between them ;

about this news :

its not said in the correct way ;

they wont execute Porn-Stars , actually there isnt any public porn-star in Iran ; couse this is againt the law ;

the recent law they registered was executing the prople who publish the private (porn movies) of other people in the public without their permission ;

I know the execution of people in any way is terrible and horrible , but this is the law the current foolish government-men and Parliament-men did ;

all of you maybe know about the current mood of iran , almost non of people in Iran agree to the government but they have to admit it coz they have no other way , just waiting and waiting and waiting for a day that almost turns to all and the country and its laws change to an endurable one(s) ;

@ dMog :

this is fake , be sure ;

thanks for reading this

and sorry for my bad english ;

She was beaten for not wearing a hijab (the scarf)? Damn, look at the Queen of Jordan, she never wears a scarf. I wonder what Ahmadinejad would do to her....

Sorry to say this guys but, situations like these make me who i am today. A Racist.

Although not an extremist who devotes to ridding the world of other ethnics, its just stupid beliefs that each culture holds and behaves which make me despise the stupidity of these individuals.

I dont like the fact that Islam is pretty much a dictatorship style religion. And stupid idiots who cant think such as the student who stabbed the man to death over such silly and minor things.

I hate their culture. Its ridiculous. Obey me or die is the message.

Obey me or die is the message.

Where the hell did you get that from? And the student stabbing a man story, that is just ridiculous. First of all I dont believe something like this would ever happen, if it did please provide a source of the news. Lets say it did happen it's possible that the guy was disturbed, well totally out of his mind, or that he was in love with the girl or something and she ended up marrying someone else(the murdered guy) which still doesnt give hime any right to even touch the guy. Just an isolated incident imo. Things like this dont happen around every street corner.

I also wanted to point out that death isnt the punishment to every crime you do. Adultery and Fornication, words that have disappeared from English vocabulary, happens to be one of the worst crimes you can commit in Islam, for that matter in any religion. The punishments for both are similarly strict in Judaism as well. So these people knowing they are committing such a major crime go about publicising it makes them extremely stupid and they deserve to be punished, not with death as that is a little extreme and is not even the punishment anyway, but there needs to be made an example. I think the actual punishment is a certain number of lashes like 80 lashes over a number of days, in public.

The reason for the punishments in Islam being so strict is to keep people away from crimes in the first place. If you knew that killing a person meant that you would certainly be hung you would think a million times before killing any one. I think "An eye for an eye" is the fairest of rulings and no one can argue that. Just try to imagine your self in such a situation. If some one popped out your eye you would want to do the same with him/her, and that would be the fairest thing, but if the guy/girl were just sent to jail for that you wouldnt think thats fair, and it wouldnt be to you.

If the punishments are really light it doesnt keep people away from crimes at all, it just ends up becoming a challenge, and the criminal knows that he can take the punishment.

In the end it all comes to down to looking at it this way - "If you cant do the time dont do the crime". These pornstars knew that it wouldn't be a joke if the police got wind of their activity but they still did the crime, what do you think the law system should do. We dont like changing our books or laws according to the views of the followers.

I might get flamed for this but if you look at it objectively with a cool head you might understand. I hope this will clear a few things up.

At least they dont have school kids going around shooting school kids with automatic weapons or homosexual priests banging the backside of kids in their churches. They dont even go around waging illegal wars on other countries & killing innocent children & women nor do they occupy other peoples land or have committed genocide by killing indigenous population & raping their women or importing & trading in slaves from Africa.

Agree with both, I too dislike [some] traditions that various cultures have. As for religion, I always try to steer away from such topic because theres no use talking about. You believe in what ever you believe end of story, just don't kill or do anything stupid in the name of it. One of the biggest lies the American society has been told is that the government is secular, just look at american currency. And for crying out loud, it is Not an "illegal war" it is an "illegal Invasion" which is completely different. Right now the situation is US Armed forces versus Iraq (or so called war on terror).
