nuthut
I thought it would be fun to compare some of the "non-graphical" features IE and minefield. Results was quite interestingThe players:Sudoku test (new) 1000 puzzlesSudoku test 5000 puzzles (base test)Sudoku test 10000 puzzles(as a note: the 5000 and 10000 puzzle test, IE9 white screened during its computations while Minefield did not white screen and you could see it solving random puzzles)Shakespeare's Tag cloud - Hamlet (base test)Shakespeare's Tag Cloud - Henry VIShakespeare's Tag Cloud - CymberlineI also did a couple of the non-directx video tests (psychedelic) and Minefield was less that 1% difference in total frames and frames per second. The only place IE 9 shines was the actual 3d based javascript. It is kind of sad when IE gets beat out by another browser on there own test which is suppose to make IE shine.System:AMD Athlon Dual Core 4850e 2.5 GHzNvidia GT220 w/ 1 Gig of RAM3 Gig DDR2 RamJava Ver 6 Rev 22 64 BitAdobe Flash Player "Square" 64 bit
vin3e
Why does my ChromePlus solve 10000 Sudoku 5 puzzles on Insane in 4.510s?
irefay
Not too much of a surprise here. Other then just how much FF is better then IE9. Im on a dev build of chrome and I have a hard time going back to the FF betas. All this competition leaves users in a very good place. (remember the days of IE6 domination?) SgtKalor
IE9 seems fairly promising, at least they are attempting to get the ball rolling. The same goes for Firefox with the 4.0b releases (on my system firefox went from over 1400ms in 3.6.12 to 384ms in 4.0b8pre in sunspider). But i've personally been an Opera fan for the last few years (the same sunspider test result was around 280ms). More than speed, I just enjoy the overall feel, security and look of Opera. Extensions now available in the 11 betas, which added the only extension I ever cared about making it a perfect experience (adblock!). :)
mastershake
my ie9 beta 2 is WAYYYYY faster than the results you posted the 10,000 sodoku finished in 6.19ms on this system im typing on. and actually faster than opera 11 in all above tests and almost equal to chrome 9.xx dev version i dont use firefox so.. but seems your ie9 is off for some reason i tested on 4 machines with all almost the same results
JessicaLeigh
It's funny; I've only used Opera 5.1 on my Blackberry, and as pretty and original as I thought the interface was, it was an absolute bear to navigate through on a smartphone. I shouldn't let that experience cloud my judgment or foreshadow my opinion of Opera for Windows. Firefox is my mainstay, but since I'm feeling more open-minded these days with the beta release of IE9 and the charitable magic of the holiday season; I can certainly give it a whirl. I doubt anything could pry me away from Firefox, but nothing ventured, nothing gained, I suppose. Happy Thanksgiving all! :chef: :chug:
Administrator DKT27 Posted November 25, 2010 Administrator Share Posted November 25, 2010 Haha. Quite expected, M$ is fooling everyone in the name of speed.@mastershake: The results depend on the speed of your computer (processor, graphics card, RAM). You may get better results if you have a better one, but when compared with other browsers, it may give you the same speed ratio. ;)@nuthut: Nice work. +rep. :)
ii_die_4
To me it was very different.. FF took 13.45secs to do the 10000 insane sodoku while Chrome took 2.43secs.. Latests beta versions.. I dont want to say that FF is better or not but lets stop saying the IE is crap.. IE 9 looks rly good atm, and you can see the steps are to the right direction. FF is not what it used to be back in v1. Other browsers are equally or even better now.
Naota
Thanks for the information op. I really am rooting for IE9 to make a comeback. Although I am using Chrome Dev (locks up at times for me) and Firefox 4.0 Beta 7.

HX1
I did this test.. last night using current FF.. and IE9.. IE9 was outrunning my version.. Tested with them both open.. ( and realized AGAIN how crappy my hardware is by the results of both ).. 4secs on the 10G.. 2secs on 1G.. I still have to install the Beta..
