Administrator DKT27 Posted November 19, 2010 Administrator Share Posted November 19, 2010 Microsoft’s private Beta development milestone for the first major upgrade for Office 2010 has become somewhat of less private. The bits for Office 2010 Service Pack 1 Beta have been leaked almost immediately after the release was made available for download on Microsoft Connect. Once a select group of testers were permitted access to Office 2010 SP1 Beta Build 14.0.6011.1000 on Connect, the development milestone made its way into the wild, and is currently being offered for download by various illegal third-party sources including torrent trackers. Microsoft has not revealed any plans to offer the Beta of Office 2010 SP1 to the public, with the company appearing to be keen on having only a small group of early adopters take the upgrade out for a spin. According to third-party sources, both the 32-bit and the 64-bit flavors of Office 2010 SP1 Beta have made their way to peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing networks. At the start of this week, testers that registered for the Office 2010 SP1 Beta program start receiving emails informing them that the bits were up for grabs on Connect. In addition to Office 2010 SP1 Beta, Microsoft is also serving SharePoint Server 2010 SP1 Beta to early adopters, but so far the leaks have focused mainly on the latest iteration of the software giant’s productivity suite. SP1 is bound to help Office 2010 evolve, updating reliability, compatibility and security. However, at this point in time, Microsoft is not yet ready to start discussing all the details related to the first upgrade for Office 2010. And while Office 2010 SP1 is being built, most likely prepared for a 2011 release, the Redmond company is also focusing on the next major iteration of Office. Of course, information on what is referred to internally as Office 15 is extremely scarce for the time being, and it will most likely remain so at least for the immediate future.
