Google is to begin rolling out full mobile support for its Docs cloud-based application suite.

The English language software will be distributed over the next few days for use on Android 2.2 and iOS 3.0 devices and above, including the iPad, and other languages will follow.

The move, which Google said was one of the most common requests by customers, will help strengthen the firm's cloud offering at a time when it is facing increasing competition."With Google Docs, we're always trying to make you more productive, and part of that means making it possible for you to get things done from anywhere, at any time," said Google software engineer Andrew Grieve in a blog post.

Once the rollout is complete users will see an edit button after they sign in as normal. The new software will also support text-to-speech systems operated on Android handsets, and will allow "near real-time" collaboration with users on PCs or other mobile devices.

The lack of mobile support has been a major flaw in Google's cloud application services, and the company is under increasing pressure to add features to make its products more complete.
