Intel Confirms, Sandy Bridge Processors Set to Launch January 5

Ever since it was first announced, computer enthusiast all over the world have been keenly awaiting for Intel's next generation Core architecture, code named Sandy Bridge, so many will rejoice when hearing that Intel has finally come forward with a release date for its new chips, these being set for a January 5, 2011 launch.

As most of us expected this date corresponds with the first day of CES 2011 held in Las Vegas, Nevada, the launch event being scheduled to take place at the Venetion Hotel.

According to a Cnet report, Mooly Elen, Intel vice president, along with "surprise guests, will showcase the world's fastest processor with many new technologies Intel has built into our chips to enhance the 'visual life,'" citing an official Intel statement.

This latest news comes just one day after we reported on five future Intel Sandy Bridge based Core i7 and Core i5 low-voltage mobile processors that were disclosed by an Asian website, making public all of Intel's future mobile Sandy Bridge lineup.

For those of you that don't know that many informations regarding Sandy Bridge, or second generation Core processors as Intel likes to call them, this further improves the present day Core architecture, adding a new multimedia instructions set called AVX (Advanced Vector Extensions) as well as integrating the graphics core on the same die as the processor this leading to significant speed increases when integrated graphics are used.

All the new Sandy Bridge chips will be built using the 32-nanometer fabrication process, early reports suggesting the new architecture will offer an important speed increase compared to present day Core based chips.

This processors will also use a new socket, called LGA 1155, the last few days bringing us a slew of Sandy Bridge motherboards previews from all the important vendors out there.

End of it all, I think I can speak in the name of all computers enthusiast out there when I say that: January can't come soon enough.

Very awesome news, can't wait 'till January, :P. But on the other hand, what is there to wait for me, can't afford it anyways, :D.

I wonder, how long will it take for the laptop compitable processors to come out... There are new waves coming asore in that

area soon, :).

I think Leet once mentioned that on die graphics card may not be such a nice idea cause it will overheat the processor. :think:
