For those who want to give their Halloween party guests or neighborhood trick-or-treaters a good scare, this talking motion controlled skeleton will do just the trick.

Sam Seide, who also created a puking pirate, built the spooky decoration from an Arduino servo in the skull for the moving jaw, WAV shield, LED lights for the eyes and a PIR motion sensor. The actual skeleton was cast out of PVC for flexibility and so it can be stored.

The skeleton’s computer speakers for the WAV sound effects and voice are also disguised under a black Reaper outfit. The servomotor moves the jaw with a small bit of wiring which--due to the flexibility of the bones--in turn causes the body to jump around a little.

This DIY prop is pretty cool and is relatively inexpensive, as Seide mentions in the video above. Due to the simplicity of making this freaky skeleton, there is room for additional features to be added--a moving arm to block people getting past or to the doorbell perhaps? If you want to give it a go, the instructions are available on Instructables.
