nsane.forums
Company handles more traffic than world's largest service providers Google is claiming a record slice of the world's internet traffic, according to a recent report. Web security and monitoring firm Arbor Networks said that its latest records pegged Google with a 6.4 per cent share of all online traffic in September. "While the business press may debate Google’s future, for now Google’s traffic growth continues apace with massive corresponding impact on the network topology, peering arrangements and the overall Internet infrastructure," wrote Arbor Networks chief scientist Craig Labovitz in a blog post. The figure could place Google amongst the largest traffic handlers in the world. Arbor Networks estimates that the .4 per cent share places Google ahead of all but one of the world's internet service providers. The true share of web traffic Google operates could be even larger, however. The company suggested that when margin for error and traffic from the Google global cache is factored in. The report of record traffic figures comes as Google is continuing to struggle with legal issues related to its sites and services. In particular, the company finds itself with ongoing headaches over the collection of WiFi data from its street view service. While Google has offered up a new privacy plan to help ease fears, the UK Information Commissioner has decided to re-open the case amidst possible new allegations from the company.
