Sl@pSh0ck™
Okay, I uninstalled an app through revo uninstaller and then run ccleaner afterwards ... now when I am trying to install app it would give me error saying the "windows installer service could not be accessed" ... I have set windows installer and trusted installer services to automatic to no avail. I have unregistered and then re-register these services but still no go. I tried to do sfc /scannow but it says "windows resource protection could not start the repair service". I am not at home right now so I don't have access to my install cd to do an offline sfc /scannow. I am sure revo/ccleaner mmight have removed some registry keys associated with these services. Any ideas what I can do without resorting to sfc /scannow coz I don't want to lose any customization settings I have ATM. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. KotaXor
Try Start>Run and type in "net start MSIServer" without the quote.Oh...and Windows Module Installer should be in "Manual" in Services.mscWindows Installer should be in "Manual" too. OhMyGod
On Revo Uninstaller's settings do you have it set to "make a System Restore Point before uninstalling"?If so then simply do a System Restore to the point before you uninstalled that application.I believe when you deleted the registry keys for that application you didn't select the end keys, you might have deleted the root key for Windows Installer. If you didn't make a System Restore Point, then you might have to do a repair with your Windows disc.Thanks.:)
KotaXor
Look like you have to repair by pressing F8 on reboot.Or try this first, in services.msc>Remote Procedure Call (RPC)Select Log On In Tab Select Log As "Local System account" and tick "Allow service to interact with desktop" You'll get a message that settings wont take effect until you restart the service. To do this you'll need to reboot your PC. Hope this work.
Sl@pSh0ck™
Yeah, I think I will need my installer disc to repair this .... sfc /scannow on safe mode gives me the same error message. I don't have any restore point setup in this laptop so restoring is not an option for me :lol:Will deal with this tomorrow @ home... time to go to work ... thanks guys will keep you posted how it goes. Sl@pSh0ck™
@heathyeah i did reboot several times already to no avail.@win7nerdI used windows 7 manager to try fixing this issue but it is still dependent on the services affected so no go as well. Will try offline sfc /scannow and see if it would work. HX1
Read where a PC Tools Firewall Plus blocked the Windows Installer...by default.. and your services should be set to Manual... Not Automatic from what I am reading.. Is there a msiexec running in Task Manager? and take a look at this.. http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/fix-for-error-windows-resource-protection-could-not-start-the-repair-service-when-running-sfc-in-vista/ I know its about Vista but these areas may be similar and worth checking.. I think after that you may then try this which I think you have done once already.. http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/vista-the-windows-installer-service-could-not-be-accessed/EDIT: Link disappeared or I forgot or something.. HX1
Thats what I posted about post before last... There is a service relative to Trusted Installer.. and a process to address it.. but thats if you also have a problem with sfc.. but still could be something..( one of the reason I hate uninstallers .. ) I can do most of that stuff myself.. without it.. but this should be fixable.. easy way.. would be to do a fresh install IF.. the damage has been done.. but always as last resort... there has to be a reason that none of this is making any difference.. I would scan the registry for anything out of the ordinary.. or do a backup from last registry clean if possible.. then clean it again.. to remove the recent invalids.. but all of this is feeling around in the dark... avmad
I had the same problem many times with vista, scoured the web for fixes, and tried allsorts. In the end I kept making things worse and had to do a fresh install. Then when it happened again I installed windows 7. Im sure I managed to fix it a couple of times (cant remember how though  )Now I seem to be able to install programs, but they wont all run  Simple Port forwarding always says its stopped working as soon as I click on it. And also TUT, run it and nothing happens. I wonder if I've been banned or something from using moody copies in the past. Drives you crazy.
