i5 6xx is dual core with hyper threading. i5 7xx is quad core. depends on what you want the cpu to do because the 661 is 3.3Ghz whereas the the 760 is only 2.8Ghz which means the i5 661 will kill the 760 in single threaded apps or even dual threaded apps. Not to mention the 661 is 32nm which makes it more efficient. The choice comes down to what you plan to use the cpu for really because for single and dual threaded apps which are most apps these days I would recommend the i5 661. Only specialised applications could actually make use of 4 independent threads such as video encoding, 3d rendering software like cinema 4d and adobe stuff etc, and games. The 32nm i5 661 also has some additional instructions for AES encryption so possibly more future proof if you use those things but I don't consider that a selling point. If you plan to do heavy gaming then just get the true quad core i5 760 and you could easily overclock that.

LOL don't worry the 760 only came out a month ago, they probably run out of stocks or something, I doubt intel would end the product so quickly.

amd is coming out with SSE5 soon intel sucks in my opion

Yes intel sucks in my opinion too, their prices are atleast twice as much as their cpu is worth because their marketing is so great. Intel's next architecture called Sandy Bridge will be a disaster for all overclockers though because there will be no way to overclock the chip. I don't know how the enthusiast market will react to Sandy Bridge, perhaps intel will release versions with unlocked multipliers to fill the segment but FSB overclocking is still preferred by many.

For mobile computing though I always buy intel because AMD simply does not have the resources to put out a good mobile platform as yet. AMD has made some good promises for their upcoming architecture called Bulldozer and I have high hopes but I'm still worried about whether they will actually Bulldoze intel or if they will get Bulldozed by intel. LOL
