Anyone know of a good light weight av suite (freeware?), CA chews too much ram, and costs abit. Well really just a good firewall, can find small virus and spyware progs, such as malwarebytes.

C:\Program Files\Common Files\LightScribe\LSSrvc.exe | 2.4

If I delete the Light Scribe folder from common files, and then run a quick reg clean, would that be equal to running a uninstall if it had one?

C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe | 27.1

Is this bad?

How can I be rid of WGA notification Install wizard from popping up on start up? Xp and Office 2003 have be activated, so I don't want to install WGA...

Is it a bad/good idea to make the Initial Size of the file the same as the Max Size for paging file in performance settings of virtual memory?

In cacheman, why is my 4th core registering a usage percentage? when only 3 cores are enabled on my cpu, and windows task manager shows only three windows for cpu usage.

Thanks : )

What should I do to get rid of Light Scribe then?

On second thoughts; how does this sound http://download.cnet.com/Comodo-Internet-Security/3000-2144_4-10460704.html, is it actually free or is that just the poor mans version.

My second thoughts are that online armor in reviews sounds like it chews ram, and this is for my dads old pc also, and preserving ram is a necesity on that relic :D

Also having firewall + antivirus come together should mean they won't clash? Sounds like it is friendly with pc speed too.

WGA wizard doesn't show up in cc cleaner star up tool, but I will try msconfig ty.

EDIT: Ok i've got it, install the fire wall from (hopefully free) comodo, install nod32 antivirus (which hopefully has anti-spyware), use mbam periodically to clear out the boogy men, and get sandboxie if I get paranoid.

I changed the page file back to half, what the max size is, the mouse started to pause every now and then.

Light Scribe has no uninstall, is why I was thinking of just deleting the folder and running reg clean.

WGA install wizard doesn't have an entry in msconfig start up. :<

Need some kind of firewall on here. :P he has CA, so comodo can't be worse, i'll just turn off notifications or something :P

For WGA, you need to delete it.

My link

Hope this helps!

It is just the WGA notification Istall wizard, isn't actually installed, and I think installing it just to disable it is abit silly, just want to avoid the stupid wizard poping up :(

~

Question about Front Page 2003 + serial. rar, gets most of the way through installing but then gets to copying the office.dll and says 'verify you have access to the directory' error 1304, then hitting retry retry, ends up saying 'the file office.dll cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in cabinet file pa561401.cab'

Maybe I should just see if my office 2007 disc has front page >_> and save the drama, also get rid of this stupid groove thing.

I do have a HP printing suite? But i'm sure logitech is the webcam I remember it coming on after install and hanging around.

I uninstalled nero 7 and light scribe is still here, yeah I check the show updates box, but that mostly shows windows security ups.

By the way, thanks for all your help thus far :D

~ If I reinstall office, templates ie for word shouldn't be lost?

edit: it doesn't have front page, so I won't re install, but how would I uninstall components of office, can't figure it out, only the whole thing has an uninstall. I'm not having much luck.

EDIT: this is starting to annoy me, all I want to do is add a hyperlink to a freaking webpage, not buy microsoft office, or dl huge programs. know any simple webpage editing progs? CuteFTP is on here some where, but need to edit.

hahah... HAHA. wow. no luck indeed, I open MO 2007 onenote, just to see what the hell it even is and if my dad actually needs it on the computer.

It adds an entry to my start up and a tray icon I can't seem to kill in task manager. Bastards.

System Configuration

An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to logon an Administrative account etcetce

.There is only one user, me!

Also this being so, i'm guessing I can disable secondary logon, unless system and network service are users >. >

WGA problem fixed, deleted install package from system32.

Just before this error was encountered, what exactly were you attempting to do?

In msconfig, disable; indexing service, hp status service, light scribe service, netmeeting remote desktop service, remote access auto connection + connection + desktop help session, secondary logon, wmp network sharing, automatic updates.

edit: worked fine on the old pc.

Also, There is a blank entry in start up items, with a ticked box ?

Now that i think about it, why does Owner display in task manager not my user name.

I had a feeling msy did a bad install, ie partitioning the disk after os install, because they... forgot I wanted it.... partioned...

Well anyway, most problems solved thanks. Though still am unsure why a 4th core registers with cacheman7.

I havn't unlocked my 4th core, :P don't think mine is from that batch.

ah, thank you.

So can frontpage2003 be installed when I have enterprise2007 on?

Also I did notice the add remove component feature when I put in the 2007 disc, but it didn't have any simple remove options, just a drop down menu labrynth with odd terms.Does

just to recap. mainly what I like about ca firewall is the; program + firewall (internet) logger, so it will show say

the date time of event (of when the program tried to access something), the type ie A' inject code using zero thread' or B'hook into the win32api' and the object like A 'setwindowshookex(mousell,threadid=0,module=C:...dinput.dll' B 'virtualprotect(user32.dll) from G:\... overlayrenderer'

So what if it is just hl.exe. If it was something important atleast it has some info.

Also for firewall log has source ip and such. In a simple layout.

Edit: does unchecking a service, end it or just determine whether you see it running ?

no no that's fine I re checked everything in msconfig, I was just wondering if unchecking ends the process or just stops it showing up in task manager.

i'll look into frontpage2007

and yeah I saw the red box, but does it remove that program? or stop it from installing over the top again.

No that doesn't remove that program - only stops it from installing over the top again.

To remove particular components, navigate to 'add or remove programs,' where you generally uninstall. Here, click the option 'Change' and next, you'll be be presented with some more options - select 'add or remove features' and then on the following screen, you may X the components you need to un-install (from a drop-down menu.)

I navigated, but it just came to the same thing as would come up when putting in the disc.

- run from my computer

- run all from my computer

- installed on first use

- not available

seems to be no. remove. or uninstall.

Edit: If I reinstall will templates or outlook .pst data be lost?

ps. I remembered html can be edited in notepad. ^_^
