Apple released the iOS 4.1 beta to developers today and all hopes that a software update will fix the antenna and signal issues has been lost.

Mobilecrunch already installed and tested out iOS 4.1, in hopes that it would fix their antenna issue when you hold it in the “death grip” position. Users discovered on launch day that holding the iPhone 4 on the lower left hand corner, or in your left hand, would cause the signal bars to decrease and ultimately drop your call.

Nothing much is really new in iOS 4.1, aside from the increased signal bars, making it easier to see. Achievements have also been added in iOS 4.1 beta, but are still disabled.

Consumer Reports recently revoked their recommendation for the iPhone 4, after heavily testing the device again, at least until Apple fixes the issue. Apple moderators recently removed topics of these reports on their discussion forums earlier this week.

It looks like a recall of the iPhone 4 might appear to be coming soon, but Apple has yet to confirm that the phone hardware is faulty and has not publicly discussed the possibility of a recall as of yet.
