Apple, as expected will launch new iPods in September, but this time equipped with some of the features found in the recently released iPhone 4 according to reports.

That's according to reports following a John Lewis Christmas Technology Press Event announcing plans for the forthcoming festive period.

According to a "reliable source" quoted by website Unbeatable, the new iPod touch will include a 5-megapixel camera, a front facing webcam for FaceTime video calls over Wi-Fi along with gyroscope and accelerometer for improved gaming.

Complete with an image of a John Lewis slideshow, the report adds new iPods will be capable of shooting HD, and include quick up load to YouTube functionality and improved social networking capabilities.

It's not clear if John Lewis have any insider information to support these claims, and may simply be second guessing having checked the specs of the iPhone 4.

Christmas time is clearly an important trading period for John Lewis and Apple. For the five weeks to 2 January 2010, John Lewis reported total sales up 15.8 per cent up compared with 2009 results, with like-for-like sales up 12.7 per cent. Electricals and Home Technology increased by 11.4 per cent in the same period.
