XP Pro SP2 with 68+ hot fixes works just fine, and without a VERY GOOD reason ( I think u'll not find one) don't go for vista.

Just wait until it becomes more stable and popular and that might not happen until a service pack is released

i second both of you, what they probley don't know there's probley a bug in it some where that could let some one take control of your computer and damage it so i would wait till a SP comes out then buy it. but if i want a cheap vista. go to Japan or Tokyo and buy a pirated version of course. ;)

Or India or China...

Already working on Vista at Home and Office..

Fairly fine.. nothing too big for M$ to brag about...

I guess one should wait for atleast another 6 months...

why buying if it's already a pirated version? I think you should download it for free

Vista just basiclly has a pretty interface which doesnt have a really good use if you are a power user since it takes up a lot of resources

I'm testing Win Vista on my PC (@ least for 30 days ;) ), So far it Looks cool as an improved version of Win XP Media Center, But It will use a lot of RAM, it uses 512 MB of RAM. and the 64 bits version doesn't work. ;)

Just some information:

About "high memory usage" this is a FEATURE. (Superprefetch). If you disable this you will notice a drop in memory usage. Vista's memory management is superior to any version of windows previous - its based on the philosphy if its there use it, if not free up some. Its pointless having 2GB memory and only using 600mb...

In reference to comment stating "vista is just a pretty interface", this is totally non-sensical. There are various improvements in terms of performance, feature set AND underlying code (ie development framework).

JunkInternetMail

Skype sucks up a LOT of resources because of the compression it uses in its algorithim.

In fact MSN is also a resource hog.

And if you're using WMP to play music that will explain even more.

Kill each of these 1 at a time and you will see a 10% drop in resources OR more!
