Recently, there has been talk as to whether a future PlayStation Portable would allow for 3D gaming and just how it would be accomplished. However, Scott Rohde, Vice President for Sony Worldwide Entertainment, put the speculation to rest saying that the company does not have any future plans to develop a PlayStation Portable with 3D technology.

Speaking in an online interview with IndustryGamers, Rohde said that the next PlayStation portable is not something that Sony is talking about at the moment. When asked if there would be any plans for 3D compatibility on a future device, Rohde said "No, no plans for that," adding that the device was "not something we’re announcing right now. It’s just as simple as that. It’s all I can tell you."

Additionally, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kaz Hirai did not seem too impressed with the idea of 3D on handhelds, saying that there are limitations with "naked-eye 3D for portables," and that systems incorporating the technology lacked "high precision."

The announcement comes after Nintendo introduced the newest device in its handheld lineup, dubbed the "Nintendo 3DS," at the company’s E3 press conference. The portable gaming system will set the bar for portable 3D gaming, allowing players the ability to experience three-dimensional effects without the need for any special glasses.
