aum
Microsoft has been pushing the idea of Copilot+ PCs on Windows 11 and beyond for the last six months or so, and companies like AMD have also recently assured, in an interview with Neowin, that such devices will in fact meet the system requirements of the future Windows version. There is a reason the company is pushing for Copilot+ PCs, which are essentially PCs with decently powerful NPUs for hardware-accelerated AI performance; Windows boss Pavan Davuluri this week shared an update about what Windows will be like soon, an AI agentic OS, and unfortunately for Microsoft, it has received massive backlash and very negative feedback so much so that the comments on the post were disabled. Neowin readers are also expressing their own frustrations with recent Windows plans and developments. The gist of it is that most people want to experience a faster, bloat-free Windows, and cramming in more AI stuff has them worried that the OS will get slower and more sluggish. Users tend to love it when there are UI refreshes and performance improvements. That is why a lot of concept videos on futuristic hypothetical Windows versions are highly popular among our readers, which shows people are clearly interested in Windows developments of that sort; whether they like that mock-up render or not is a different thing. A new such idea has been presented by YouTuber AR 4789 who puts out such concept videos from time to time. The new video titled "Windows 26" seems to show what Windows could have been like in 2026. The mock-up imagines Windows as an OS with a "friendly easy to customize design" that is "smarter" to provide a "better experience," plus there is an automatic dark mode. The inspiration from liquid glass is evident in this shell redesign concept. The video also shows floating widgets that can be placed anywhere on the desktop offering maximum customization experience. All of this could be controlled with the help of Copilot. Knowing how Microsoft is making Windows an agentic OS, this could actually be fairly close to how next gen Windows will work. The commenters on the video mostly think it's a good looking mock-up though there are some who do not like it.
